In a certain sense, it's downright hilarious listening to this dude justify his .23 cpm job.
On the other, it's a little sad.
As it shows how far this industry has fallen.
You just wonder how many professional drivers who demand good pay & bennies for their time/effort have jackasses like this put out of work by hauling cheap?
But don't worry, what comes around goes around.
These guys will get their just desserts.
Mexicans will do the job for 1/2 the .23 cpm rate to get out of the fields and into an air-conditioned truck.
While we'll be retired and laughing our asses off! :lol2:

Lol, I find it very entertaining. I keep telling myself this guy has to be joking. No one could honestly put Werner above UPS... heck is there anyone who offers better opportunities for drivers then UPS? There are alot of close 2nds but UPS sits up top on my list.

There are not alot of professional driver out there anymore. Maybe people making $0.23 a mile scared them all away haha.

I'll give you a hint if you ever try and get a job that can support a family. 85% of the good jobs could care less about experience, it comes down to work ethic and attitude. Experience might come in 3rd, but we have all seen the guys with 20+ years who are crap workers.
Yep, and most of the ones I've met were union.

See with Werner all they need is a pulse. When can you start training? 6 months?
It's kind of hard to train when you drive a truck with only one seat. The only thing I have done is shown a new guy what macros we use on the qualcomm and what exits our swap-out points are on.

Good luck, I hope one day you can pull your head out of the dirt and start making some money. LTL is where the money is man. I don't mean to sound rude. You can do better then Werner. Check out Con-way, close to Union pay without the Union and very busy.
Yeah, sounds nice except for doubles and Hazmat. I smoke (like a chimney at times) so Hazmat is out of the question.

Those opportunities are only there if you have Doubles, Hazmat, and 15-20 years as a nobody in their company. So, those opportunities don't really exist. They might, in 20 years, But who the hell is going to renew their CDL 5 times waiting for them to offer you a CDL job?

Talking A nobody...????

Actually, having spent about thirty years at UPS....I hardly considered myself a "nobody" while driving a package car making $70K + a year and being home every night and weekend, while doing my time on the feeder bid list. After 7 years I finally got a feeder bid..It's called "working your way up"...And when you do get there, you find that seniority is a very good thing to have. My last bid before retirement was a driver's "wet dream"..A Monday through Friday Phoenix/Tucson/Sierra Vista layover, 2X a week, off by Friday morning, back at 3AM Monday. Those guys that do package cars make VERY good money and have a life, but it is not a piece of cake by any means. This "nobody" laughs on the first of every month when my retirement check goes direct deposit.

Just another case of OTR vs LTL, who's better than who, who's got more brain cells,. etc etc.

Everybody just be happy with what you got and keep doing what you're doing.
If Joe Schmoe isn't happy with home life and would rather escape that mundane existence, then let them drive all those miles for whatever pay-rate is thrown at them.

If Tom Dyck wants to be home every night and see the wife and kids, while bringing in a good chunk of change, then let him do as he pleases.

We've all got our own version of what we consider "Having a life".

They don't direct hire drivers of any kind around here, they want you to be a package handler for a decade or more before you get considered to be on the waiting list to even be a package car driver. So, my original statement still stands. And yes I say this having worked for UPS, as a package handler.

Sounds good, but just think where you would be if you didn't pay your dues and worked for Werner for $0.23 a mile. Regret?? Just think you could have been Johnny "Supertrucker" Bigrigger with a new shiny truck and a belt buckle the size of a dinner plate.

Doesn't UPS have a freight division that hires off the street?

It's sad, some people don't think about the future. We live in a " I want it now" society and "I'm not going to wait."

Good luck Ronin I hope it all works out for you with Werner. I guess the good thing about Werner is your next job will be a step up. Plus the way UPS treats its employees I bet they will be out of business in a few years. Just read what feederfred said, sounds like alot of mistreatment to me.

Sorry, I missed this one.

Call Con-way, I don't think they will call you. If your looking to make some good money and be paid from the time you clock in to the time you clock out they are your company. (freight, not truckload). Good luck.

Sad thing is the fact that if you really wanted that package-handling job, it's either wait-list for that or relocate and remain in whatever part of the country they wanted to give you that job.

In CA, this meant either the dumpy, east side of the LA area, or the dumpier, east side of the NoCal Bay Area.
Couple that with only low hours and deciding whether or not to commute or put up with high rent in those areas and you're in for a raw deal.
