Well in that case go to those 20 companies web sites or get their phone numbers and start filling the apps out.

Kind of hard to give advise when someone gets on and says something like who's the best company to work for. It usually goes, well where do you live and what do you want to do and who have you talked to.

It all depends on what is good for you, and which one hires you.

I gotta tell ya. IF I were to be hiring drivers, I would not spend much time looking at internet "applicants". I want a driver whom has enough ambition to drive to my establishment, walk up to the door and knock on it, introduce him or her self, then tell me of his or her experiences or interests.

To my way of thinking, if a person has no more energy to expend, than sitting at a computer filling out an internet application, what is there to induce me to believe that the individual(s) would take any interest in the well being of my company or the equipment.


Especially in the current job market, where there are a boat load of "Old School" drivers like me..out there pounding the pavement trying to get back to work.

Couldn't agree more.
Our on-line app's get dumped in a mailbox that might get checked when i get notification that it is full.
Hired someone this morning who drove 60+ miles to come in and talk over someone with more experience that wouldn't drive across town.

If they are close enough I will actualy go to thier door, thats how I got hired with the plant farm but since hertford, nc isn't that close to a major trucking lane, I still depend on the online apps. Of course things being what they are that might soon change. Might be calling huston, tx home soon enough

I hope your wife and kids understand that you are going to be gone..alot. I graduated school in august, I started my training with TransAm over 5 weeks ago. my time out with my trainer is just getting over with. now i have to go back and test for a week, and after that I have to wait for a truck to become available, maybe a week or two. I'll put in for home time as soon as i get my truck, but it will be at least another week after that. I'm lucky I dont have a wife or kids waiting for me because it looks like i an not going to make it home for the holidays. so be prepared.

That's a few. Here's another piece of advice. Go to the nearest truck stop and go to the door leading from the truck fuel section and look for a rack of magazines. These are free and list a lot of companies.
