Default Schneider Dedicated

I've been hired by Schneider to run a Wal-Mart dedicated account. All grocery loads, majority night driving within a 250 mile radius of my home. Home 3-4 nights during the week and 48 consecutive on weekends or as the days drop in if I get stuck out. IE. 5 on and 2 off with 48hrs off guanteed. All multi-stop loads going to Wal-Mart Supercenters only. 2-3 drops then a backhaul home.

.37/mile, $15 per drop on all drops and waiting time paid. All no touch loads. Should be about $45,000/ year when all is said and done.

Anybody do one of these or have know someone that has? I dont care if the money falls a little short as long as the home time is as promised.

This RDC run has been in operation since 1998 so they have stuff pretty down-pat. They posted an add for it for 4 drivers and had 45 call. I got one of the spots.

What the heck? I called them just a week or two ago and the recruiter told me the only thing available was dry van otr. No dedicated and no tanker anything. He offered me like .35 cpm for otr with 2.5 years experiece. I guess those go fast.
Sounds like you got a decent gig, hope everything works out there. P.S. Do you live in eastern NC or western NC?

This job was posted on Friday and was closed Sunday. I called and applied Monday and was hired Monday afternoon. The recruiter told me that he got 45 responses over the weekend and he had gone through 18 people although I was one of the first to call him back and the first to send my app in. After I talked to him I had my girlfriend fill it out online and send it and called him right back. Schneider is not hiring in NC. This was a specific job and I happened to see it and go for it. Just luck of the draw I guess. The job is in Henderson. I live in North Raleigh. They were hiring only in a 30 mile radius of Henderson and I live 32 away so just slipped in.

Oh, I've been driving over 15 yrs so I guess they were looking for more experience or something. I don't know. My old job at JB Hunt is open.

Crete has a dedicated reefer division for the Wal-mart supercenters in Bartlesville, Ok which I ran for a little while and I loved it. When I pulled in to a store they unloaded me right away. If there wasn't enough people on the dock, they called people from out in the store to unload. All I did was stand at the back of the trailer and pull stickers off of the pallets as they pulled them off and put them on the paperwork and off I went to the next store. You get to know the folks at the stores and everybody was friendly. I had a super driver manager and that helped alot also. She is running the show now there in Bartlesville. I got lucky to get on and it sounds like you were also. I hope you had as good as luck as I did. And for the curious, the only reason I quit was because the house I was selling had the contract fall through and I had to move back to OKC, otherwise I would probably still be there. Keep us posted.

Well my friend i don't know what to do.. i don't want to break your heart but i might have to... I can help you with as much as i know as i pull out of the Gordonsville, VA warehouse

But... Here i goes

First thing, they lied to you about the all Wal-Mart Supercenters.. You will also be going to Sam's Clubs also, and i've heard that if Sam's doesn't want to unload you then you will have to wait until they choose..

Second... don't know about the weekends off thing.. Every Wal-Mart DC i know of is 5/2 with two days off during the week or 6/2 which you get about three weekends off in a row every other month..

Third.. Henderson is FULLY SLIP SEAT!! no keep truck.. some of their trucks look better than ours but they have some crappy beat up ones also, and the old EA reefer trailers are some trash.. Unfortunately you won't get to pull any of the Wal Mart Dry van trailers which most are in GREAT SHAPE due to us in Gordonsviile servicing your area with the Dry Grocery..

Fourth... this job is constantly open, the recruiter told you some BS.. alot of those Henderson guys left and went and hauled cans when they went fully slip seat!!

Fifth... Yes mostly 2-4 stops on a load.. its $15 a store AFTER the first store.. so if you have 3 stores then you only going to get $30 dollars.. You do get $30 dollars for doing a backhaul..

Six.. Wouldn't count on the 3-4 nights a week thing.. If hometime means that much to you then you probably won't make that much money.. You can take one load a day but that's why Ruan is pulling 30% of the frieght from out of there because Schneider drivers was taking one load and going home and had drivers short all the time so they lost part of the contract..

Seven.. You don't have to do night driving, you can slot for loads early in the day so you can keep running during the daylight hours, Most of the longer loads with multi stops and backhauls get released early in the morning so it's best to slot for 6 a.m/7 a.m but that 48 hours off can be tricky... not to mess up your sleep schedule you could do a 34 hour restart and then go back, because once you leave out that gate to go home they want you to be back 48 hours to start again..

Like i said in a previous post.. this account could be the best in all of Schneider fleet, but with their penny pinching it will never be.. Trucks not in good condition, slow dirty Trucks, i mean it's unbelievable.. but there is some perks with this place, You can park at just about any Wal-Mart to take your 10 hr break regardless if you delivered there, you can earn up to $75 extra on a load and its has weekly time at home.. I just don't like this account because of the slip seating and the condition of these trucks.. besides that it could be worse...

any questions hit me up..

Thanks for the info.

1) I didnt really care if the days off were during the week or not. 2 off in a row is fine no matter where they land and the recruiter did say they would not always be on the weekends. I've been at this enough to know that stuff happens on the road and you get hung out. No company is going to guantee you being home like that because of Murphy.

2) I was told right from the start that it was slip seat only. Bill (recuiter) made sure I knew it and told me without prompting on my part so I know that going in. He was very up front with it. Never done it but I figure if someone is a pig we can take care of that. You can always refuse to get into a dirty truck and get another one. I'll just show up a little early and clean the truck. I dont mind that. Maybe I can take it and maybe not. We will see about that.

3) I asked about the VA DC as I've been into that one before. He said that we didnt really cross each other much. Because I would haul groceries only I would do only Supercenters. If I don't then thats ok.
I dont understand and will call him back then. He specifically told me that I would haul groceries only several times.

4) Yeah he did tell me $15 per stop. I put that down here because he said it but figured it was after the first like every other company. When figureing compensation I never add in stops, fuel bonuses etc...because you never know what they are and if you are going to get them.

5) A recruiter that makes the company look like the last best hope of mankind? Say it ain't so! I take everything with a grain of salt.

I know he said 3-4 times a week. As long as its 1-2 times and 48 off thats fine with me. I dont need to be home every night and didnt really expect it anyways. I wrote in this thread what he told me not what I believed would be the real deal. The recruiters don't know. This one was actually a driver for them for 15 yrs so gave me some straight answers about stuff. The rest is stuff he is told so he has no control over it. Not his fault. As for nights. He was very specific about this and the job posting said it also. In fact, it was one of the first things he told me about the job and he told me several times to make sure I was ok with it.

Once upon a time I ran the WM dedicated out of London KY and helped out at Gordonsville and Henderson quite a bit. As long you bear down and work hard, you'll be fine. Good luck.

Ive done a couple of runs from Fontana to Vegas. Im on a different account, but I help out when they need it. Out here you get the runs an the hometime because they took over the grocery, the reefer, and the local P&D from swift and Cardinal.
