Default Ficel Transport

Steel hauling company out of Buffalo. They are hiring in our area. My hubby has never hauled steel before but they are willing to train. Any info and the pros and cons of hauling steel vs. dry van would be appreciated. Thank you

If I remember correctly, Ficel is one of the companies which runs sleds and B doubles, which is something you most certainly want to factor in when considering this, as these are much heavier vehicles than your standard five axle configuration, and requires a lot more attentiveness on the driver's behalf. As for the company itself, I really don't know anything more than that about them.
Steel hauling vs. dry van... well, there are various loads one will haul in a dry van. Depending on the sort of account you run, you may or may not have to load and unload your trailer yourself. With steel hauling, it's pretty much always going to be live load and unload. While you won't actually load the trailer yourself, you will have to secure that load (chain it down), and tarp it. Now a lot of companies which do dedicated steel runs will run 'covered wagons', which makes the tarping process a lot simpler (unless you have to break the whole thing down to get the load on the trailer).
As for downsides aside from the increased amount of labour (well, downside to some, but I preferred it), something so dedicated as that it is going to require that steel be moving consistently for the work to be consistent. If the workers in the steel mills go on strike, it'll affect a steel hauler, as well.

Yeah...it's the same here with the auto industry as we live in the Detroit area.

Thanks for your info! I really appreciate it and I will pass it along to my husband.
