I've been down that road a couple of times when i really got in a bind and needed a job. Most of these companies seem like they are trying to get you in the door, fill out paper work for a few hours, and then you wait days or maybe even weeks for a job. And god forbid if you turn down ANYTHING, they will usually never call you again.
I got assigned to a place where I was suppose to be hauling building materials around the Sacramento area. I rode with the guy for 3-4 days not doing much of anything and couldn't believe anything actually got to where is was suppose to go. None of the loader and most of their drivers didn't speak a lick of english and so communication was almost non existant and when i tried to ask for a map or some type of directions to an area i wasn't familiar with they would blow me off or tell me to go ask someone else and no one wanted to help. So at the end of the day I called the placement agency and told them the situation and that i wasn't comfortable there at all. So they told me i didn't need to show up the next day and they would "try" to find me something else. Well that never happened.
Around here, there are some placement agencies that only work with people that want to be placed into full time, permanent jobs which seem to be a little better than they temp agencies that bounce you around from job to job, but i've never worked for one of them, even though they called me with a few decent sounding positions, i couldn't accept any of them because I had already found work on my own.
As far as the questions go, seemed to be just run of the mill questions about your work history and general things like not doing drugs and not stealing from the company.
From my experience, try to get hired directly on with a company if at all possible, but if the need arises try to look at all the companies to see which one might be better than the others.
