Question for Opal, or anyone else with May. Do you need to have the haz-mat endorsement or not. May's site says yes, this site says no.

Hello everyone.

For the first question. You have to be a least 21 to driver for MTC. Second question. Yes you have to have your hazmat if you want to drive 48, if you only want to drive the 11 western then no. But we reimburse for the fingerprinting up to a 100.00. All you have to do is turn it in with your trip and it will be loaded on to your commdata card.

Stay safe everyone! Go New York!!!!!!!!!

You know it is a BS company when they ask for a no idle.

When you spend your first night drenched in sweat in FL, GA, LA, TX, etc then you will see it just isn't worth it. They expect you to live like an animal with the heat from the engine you have been humming all day coming into the cab. Plus the smell of nasty baked piss easing its way into your cab from the rolled down windows hahahahahah. No way NEVER AGAIN.

But seriously, tell my why a driver should have to ASK to run the truck for heat or cooling? Do you do that when you are home?

My belief still stands. If a driver is spending multiple nights away from home, then the truck becomes his or her home while they are out. If it's their home, than they should be able to heat or cool it without asking a dispatcher/fleet manager's permission.

I think Opal explains this very well "Good after noon everyone! Just wanted to clarify the idol policy, at MTC. We allow 10% in the winter because we have the Wabosto heaters in the trucks. They run off the fuel system and keep you very warm. We allow 30% in the summer.

The reason for our idle polices is to reduce the amount of drivers out there idling for no reason at all. For example a driver leaves his or her truck running and goes in to take a shower, then decides to have dinner, oh and then plays at the game machines for a couple of hours. You have about 5 hours of unnecessary idling.

Now for clarification on being uncomfortable in the summer. We do not expect for you to roast your self to death. If you as a driver have good communication with your D/M you will not be charged with over idle. If the weather is to hot for you to sleep then all you have to do is let them know via Quail Comm. Just send in a message when you get up and say it was hot out side please for give 10 hours of time or how ever many hours you idled the truck.

To be a successful OTR driver with MTC or any other trucking company out there, you must self manage yourself. Your D/M is out there to help you be successful but only you are responsible for yourself. COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY! "

Other Co's that I am familer with have the same policy, as a part of the Company, you have some responsibility to make sure they are around the next time you want a pay check.

I do agree with you that no one needs to sleep in the extreme cold or heat and should be able to be safe as a result of a good nights sleep.

hhahah yea right.

It is hot EVERY SINGLE NIGHT of the summer in the southeast/west and some north.

I have worked at Schneider National and we had the exact same idle police there. 30% idle is nothing. Hell, you can get over 30% idle by just leaving your truck on going inside the shipper/receiver for a few minutes over the course of a couple weeks. When its over 90 deg outside and the sun is beating down and you have to turn the truck/AC off because they are loading you for 3 hrs, it does get old fast.

Now if you leave the truck on for say 9hrs straight, by the time you wake up you will be over 30% idle or very close to it.

Yea right, that will fly for about a week, then you will get a message or a call from your Dispatcher/idle police saying " You need to get that idle down driver", then its back to the oven. If that was the case, then why have a summer idle policy anyway???

Now in the winter it should be no problem for sleep with the Wabesto. It can be -5 outside and you will have to wake up to turn the thing down for a bit. They get VERY hot.

O and you can forget about watching TV and using your laptop and cooler, charging your phone etc. You will have enough power for about 2 hrs.

OK GUYS!

You say the truck becomes your home! And that you should not get charged for idle because you need to stay comfortable in the winter and the summer. I do think that you are right. But when you are at "home" you have a mortgage payment or rent and you have to pay utilities! So that you can stay comfortable in the summer and winter. So what's the difference? Think about it guys. I wish that I could call the gas company and the electric and tell them that it was to hot outside and I had to run the air, please forgive me and credit my account.

If you think about it we pay for fuel and everything else. So if the truck is your home and you feel that you should run the truck all the time, STOP bitching and pay rent and utilities.

I'm sorry guys but if you would just read the way I explained it then it would make sense. Also if you don't like it then you don't have to come and work for MTC. pain and simple. You think I don't know where you are coming from I do!!! Stop and think about it and it will make sense!

Stay safe and have a nice day!
