What could be very troubling for LP is a recent court case against FedEx where the LP drivers were reclassified as company drivers by the IRS. This means that all deductions are out the window. This could also cause more problems in the industry for LP.

You might want to try Selectrucks or Arrow truck sales. There are good and bad parts to each but atleast the truck is yours to do with as you want.

Yeah, but why go that route to ownership? Wouldn't it make better sense to buy your own truck outright through a bank instead of via the company store and paying all their fees/overhead plus a cut to SelectJunk? But you hear "I got bad credit, divorce, reposessions, undercapitalized, forclosure, etc...so nobody else will finance me". Well then why are you going into business in the first place?

Of course, someone at a big-fleet like Prime is gonna chime in that they get a new truck every few years and avoid all the hassles of maintenance. But nothing is free in this life...you pay a steep price for renting that shiny Freightshaker...just as you would if you bought your washing machine on a 24-month EZ-payment plan at Rent-A-Center. Speaking of which, I just bought a brand-new Whirlpool for $150.00 cash-on-the-barrelhead at a scratch-and dent sale...I would have paid 3.5 X that if I rented-to-own. A real O/O will get a square deal on his rig and have the means/knowledge to keep his maintenance costs down to a minimum and procure max life out of his equipment...thus passing on these savings to his bottom line.

Personally, I wouldn't buy or lease any truck today. In most cases, the rates just aren't there to justify the risks/headaches of running my own business. The only exception would be some sort of specialized work....where all the steering wheel holders can't undercut you. But more often than not, you are better off being an employee and enjoying the perks of paid vacations, retirement plan, paid holidays, benefits...and last but not least OVERTIME. Oh yeah, I forgot. All you guys are exempt from the FLSA and let your employees screw you over with straight time.

fed ex is not a lease purchase, the ground guys are 100% o/o. and if you read the court cases well enough you would see that it is the p/d drivers that are complaining, not the linehaul.
