I drove for Stevens and my experience there was good. The only issue I had with Stevens itself, even on their Alliance side, was the amount of time out. They really need to address that! Other than that, they are an excellent company for someone just training to get in, or with minimal experience and cannot get in with one of the carriers that require more.
The other issue, is with the Grocery warehouses themselves! The BS games they play with the drivers. But that issue is common with all carriers that go into those DC's, including owner op's. Not really something Stevens or the others have control over.
Stevens safety record is at the top of the heap, compared to the other large carriers and students from the Stevens school are highly sought after, exprecially by JB, Schnieder and a couple of others. Thus the reason those carriers have no hire contracts for 1 year, of Stevens school graduates.
Also, you cannot beat the equipment Stevens has! Well maintained and equipped, with larger than most sleepers. As for anyone that may be interested in a Lease program, Stevens has the least risky of them all. An open ended, turn in the keys, get back in a company truck program, if for whatever reason you are not making money. I made good money on that program, and running as a solo, NOT Training! When I started training, just before having to come off the road, my profits doubled.
Why did I leave! We were planning a wedding, had purchased a piece of property and building a house, as well as having a 1 year old son. You just cannot get things done on that scale, being home only 3-4 days a month.
TMC got me home when I wanted, and I left on good terms. I had been offered one of JB Hunts better than sweet DCS jobs near the house (4 miles) and made the stupid decision to take it. Needless to say, the account was great, but JBH management and practices, today, are screwed up. Driving for my friends Dry Bulk company until after the first of the year, and will more than likely go back on with TMC, grossing over $1000.00/week. They have already told me I could have my same FM. That is a term of my return, as my FM was a former driver, and clearly understands the aspects of the job! If I could not safely and legally make a run, he would work and find another one, or set the first run up so it could be done or repower the load up the lane.
Again, as I have stated in numerous post before, an individuals experience is what they make of it.
Anyway,back to Christmas!
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL and may you have a HAPPY, SAFE AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.
Louis

For dry van, look at Conway/CFI
For reefer - Stevens Transport or Martin (depends on where ya live)
For flatbed - TMC

The only problem i have with this post is you told the guy to stay away from Jb but directed him towards Stevens are you trying to help him or hurt him? The other recomendations are solid...but Stevens? Come on lol
