D.O.T. physical??
#1
Sorry I know this is probably the wrong forum page for this question but this forum seems to be the busiest, so heres my question along with my story: I just renewed my D.O.T. physical card and my girlfriend did the same thing but she went to a different location to get her physical. Well the doctor examining her said theres a new law stating that truck drivers have to carry the "long form" of their d.o.t. physical, when I got my new physical card they never told me anything about that, so just wondering if it's true or just in some areas or what?? Let me know if u know, u know??

You carry the card on you ,but I'm pretty sure you always had to keep the long form on your truck ...I could be wrong ,but I always kept the long form on the truck .just in case it was needed .

At one time the card was kept on the driver to show law enforcement if need be, the long form stayed with the Dr. that issued it, several years ago that changed to the driver carring the long on the truck in his/her possession. Don't reaaly know the why's for that change.

Huh ?? Long form stays in possession of EMPLOYER...(in driver file). Drivers do not have to carry the "long form"....I called Calif. DMV@Sacramento just to be sure. Small green card is just reference verification, law enforcement can verify current physical via computer. If nothing current on file with your states DMV, all the "long forms" in the world are not going to change the situation...1-800-777-0133

I started driving in 1985, about 2000 was my last physical as I retired about 2002 due to some medical issues, at that time I was told by the employer that the law had changed and the long form needed to stay with the driver.
However, with that said, I am not arguing with fred, just what I was told. Also, as we all know Cali does seem to do their own thing and lead the country in change, lol. I guess we need to go the the lil' green "bible" of D.O.T. regs.

I can not answer is a driver goes to Canada, but if s/he stays here in the states all that they are required to carry is the medical examiner certificate (card).
This information is provided on the "long form" at the bottom of the last page. Now with that said, there is nothing wrong with a driver having a copy of the long form with them, and the long form may be used as a substitution for the card since it has all the needed information on it. Even if the driver has the long form in their possession the company is still required to keep one copy in the driver's qualification file and the medical examiner is also required to keep a copy.

Ya I was just kinda worried/confused cuz my girlfriend had told me that new law was in effect about carrying the long form with the driver, which I dont carry with me I only have my little physical card in my wallet that I carry. So I guess I better get my long form cuz I know California D.O.T. are a bunch of d**ks when it comes to bein legal .
