Default Shaffer Company Drivers

Looking at Shaffer but have a few questions.

1) How goes it with your fleet manager? Works with you or not?
2) Home time: I like to run six weeks out then 1 week home. Would that be an issue?
3) Does Shaffer use company checks for lumpers.
4) How are they on reimbursement for Tolls & Scales?
5) Is there a Legal Plan offer with benefits?
6) Is there any issues with taking the tractor home at Home Time.
7) Any issues with using the Transflow Express System?
8) How hard do they push for HazMat?
9) Whats your average miles per week?
10) How goes it with Logbooks?

Any other comments of concerns would be appreciated.

Sorry for the questions but need to know. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi, Mr C.
I worked for Shaffer about 1,5 years till 6 weeks ago. So I can give you some thought here.
1)Depends who you get, and that depends what fleet you want to drive.
My fleetmanager was one of the main reasons I quit, dont need to go
into detail.
2)You will be fine like you want to do it.
3)Yes, but they want you to take out twice a week $125 to pay for
lumpers abd other things first, which is a pain.
4)No problems there, as long as you drive their suggested route. And here
they took more and more toll roads away in the past to save a few $.
5)They didnt offer one to me.
6)No problem with that.
7)Since they have only transflow and not trippak you have to make sure
to find a pilot or Loves in time to get paid when you want.
8)I think you need it, but i never had to use it in my time.
9)Another reason I quit, it went under 2000 and then under 1600 regulary.
10) They are strict with the logbook like many big companys today.

Hope this helps!

UncleHotte's experience is definitely the exception rather than the rule.

2. You will get a long fine. Most drivers stay out 3-4 weeks.

3. Shaffer gives you the option of using either. You are allowed to take two $125 advances per week. You can use that money anyway you please. Any that is spent on scales, repairs, lumpers etc. is reimbursed on the next paycheck as long as you send in your receipts.

4. All tolls are reimbursed as long as they are authorized in your route suggestion. Most tolls are paid by ezpass. The one that isn't that you will use a lot is the Oklahoma TP. Just pay cash and turn in your receipt. Anytime you scale a load you get reimbursed.

5. No.

6. No problems just so long as you have a fairly secure place to park.

7. Transflo is the best thing going. Much better than trip pac. Just get all your loads in by Friday night and get paid for them the next Thurs.

10. They are very picky on logs. New drivers are audited frequently until they prove they are doing it right. Once you establish a good reputation audits come once every two months.

I used to work for Shaffer and it was great, on the log books they are the toughest, but the pay was fair for me and i had a great fleet manager.

only reason i left was the fact i had a better deal to get my wife her CDL

and then we found this opportunity at USX we are on now, so i think we are here for a long long while.

Hello, Karnajj.......
about the cash advances...I was TOLD by my fleetmanager anytime I wanted
to pay a lumper with a comcheck that I had to use the 2 x$125 cash first. And when I took the money like TOLD and I didnt need it that week i had it with me and NOT in my bankaccount where it should have been. B.T.W.... when you say exception of the rule, a few weeks before I quit my dispatcher told me her drivers are DROPPING LIKE FLYS because nobody wants to do the short runs under 300 miles which are getting more and more these days.

If you're gonna drive for Ackley, stick to dry freight (Crete).

Cool How hard do they push for HazMat?
9) Whats your average miles per week?
10) How goes it with Logbooks?

Current Driver- 2.5years
?1) Fleet manager----heck, mine quit and walked out....didn't notice/wasn't notified until 2 weeks later by my Driver Manager....yes over here you have 2 A-Holes to deal with( as if 1 isn't enough).but seriously it took them over 2 months to find a replacement just in time to Re-Organize the system and go to Zone Dispatch and make all their Fleet managers...Dispatchers Again!( all they really did was monitor Hometime/Fuel compliance.
?2) 1.5 days off for every 6 days out/ max 5 days(except vacation)...if you want to stay out 6 weeks...THEY'LL LOVE YOU!
3) WSS Lumper service account/ wal-mart account....many direct bill accounts set up/ Com-check to pay for lumpers. No Comchek issued for lumper under $70-- you have to pay that with your advanced cash.
4) about the same as any other company here...but you got to check your statement...they sometimes make a mistake.
5)Legal plan with Benefits? Like TVC?<--OOIDA??
6)they prefer you take the tractor home as opposed to leaving it somewhere and riding the bus.
7)Not since I got the Transflow Now! software so I can now transflow from the cab of my truck( only used on Friday evenings when I can't get to a Love's or Pilot)
8) Currently HazMat not required; but I fear that will change soon next year when Shaffer name is dropped completely and we are fully merged with Crete( their Drivers will cry that it's "UNFAIR! We have to carry it...why don't THEY!"
9)Well....that's a personal question ops: Not good right now....We're dropping like Flies! In fact, if they don't pick up....I'm out of here!
10)Logbooks is handled by Crete Carrier Corp......up through the conclusion of the big Florida Accident ....they were Draconian MotherFrackers....but now that it's decided( and they got off) they're starting to slack up...just a little. There won't be any running OUTLAW here if that's what you're hoping to get away with.

Hey, Mention My Truck# I could sure use the $$$$! Make up for all those miles I'm not getting.
