Taking the truck home..
Which companies allow it? Right now, I'm most interested in Watkins-Shepard and CFI. I hear both either require or prefer to have the truck parked at a terminal/drop-yard during home time. Are there any good entry-level companies that allow the truck to be taken home?

Might want to check your local zoneing codes and ordiences and see if you can even have the truck parked on your property. Some towns and cities will fine you for having a commercial vechicle in the driveway.

Roehl was on my short list, too
Good call with the zoning regs - I just checked the local ordinances online and commercial vehicles are not allowed to park in residential areas at all. What a silly ordinance :!: Though, I do understand where they're coming from. I guess my only other option is to find a company that will let me park NEAR my home (and a third party that will let me park the truck on their property). Hmmm.....

Some companies are somewhat particular of where you can park your rig.
Most will allow you to park it at your house, if you are able to, but some want it in some type of secured location if you are unable to take the truck to your house. Many companies also do not really care where you park the rig. Just make sure you have permission from the owner/manager before leaving it where ever.
Before jumping on with a company, get their policy on this straight from the company, do not rely on word of mouth because companies may have a different policy depending on where you live.

Try calling RV storage lots. Wort case is parking your trailer at a Walmart and then parking your truck in a storage facility. Most RV lots will meet the company requirement for a secured location.

Check with the manager at the local Walmart about parking at the far end of the lot. Also, check out strip malls. Just get the owner's or property manager's permission to park there first. You could also try local trucking company lots and local warehouses. Some might charge a small fee to park there.

Thanks for all the tips - I was worried I might be forced to commute to some far-away terminal, but it sounds like there are plenty of options.

the only way to take your truck home is if you bobtail (highly unlikely) other wise you will have to stay attached to the trailer you are assigned to. If your house will allow a combination vehicle than you can take it home.
Where ever you park your truck must be approved by Joplin (its pretty easy though). I think this will change because you will now be able to park at Conway terminals in the near future.

I take my truck home if I'm there more than 2 days, I live 22 miles from the terminal, I drop my trailer there and bobtail home. We're moving to Iowa, no problem taking the truck home there either but now that I'm flatbedding (and no near terminal) I'll take the trailer with me.
