Safety will shut u down! The first month they may over look your running habits. The 2nd month they will inform you to run legal. I was with Knight when it was a good company to drive for in my 62 mph trk. I wood pull maybe 3 loads a week and be home Fri evening, having dinner with my family, miles would be 3K or better. I had left Knight and went local for 14 months and then returned back to Knight, I believe their was and accident somewhere in the NW. which caused a law suite. My 2nd time with Knight was noteicable, growth... New Terminals were opening up all over and very close to eachother. They were using OTR drivers as local drivers with a sleeper, mainley in NE area, meanwhile out in Cali they had put day cabs out on the road. I mentioned b4 why drive short runs for OTR pay? Knight needs to be more fair and flexiable regarding a guranteed pay for the week or atleast a $100 for and load under 200 miles. Its obvious Knight is making monies with all these locations opening its time the driver does!

Ok, here it is November 2008, last post on Knight was back in August. So how is Knight doing now days out of the Indy terminal?
The reason I ask is because I have been approved to drive with Knight but I am taking a day or two to consider it after reading these posts. Because I have had offers from Sisbro, Transport America, Millis, FFE, Sharkey and a couple others. Is Knight auto shift trucks? I would prefer a 10 speed manual. Can I run SE from Indy and back all the time if I want. Will I really get home every weekend if I want or has things changed since some of these guys posted last year? What can I expect at orientation in Indy? Probably the good old pre-trip inspection, road test, back into a dock or a space, sign some paperwork, see the nurse for a physical and drug test, and etc right? Anythign else I need to know please? Thanks in advance, Brent

i think the knight this topic is about, is the flatbed company based out of washington. if so, i have a friend who drives for them. according to him, they've got some pretty nice bennies. he also loves them because they've got a fleet that consists of mostly long nose petes.

Last I knew almost all of Knights trucks are 10 speed manuals. They might have a few autos floating around from trucks they obtained when they bought out a company, but those trucks typically get put up for sale instead of spending much if any time in the fleet.
I have been gone from Knight for 3 years now so I can't give you any up to date info, but INDY is one of their oldest terminals and has a history of being one of the most consistent ones. Granted while this information is outdated, when I drove for them the drivers who had their preferred operating area from Indy to Chicago to Kansas City to Dallas to Atlanta up to Charlotte back over to Indy usually did well in miles each week. (In other words, midwest, south and southeast).

OK, ok. I take it back. How are you running 16,466 miles in a month? I want to believe that you are able to do that while running both compliant and legal. I just can't see it happening dollarshort. I readily admit that my OTR time was limited, and was mostly team driving. When I see those type numbers, it just seems impossible to me. I just remember how hard 7700 miles were on a team, and, remember how tough a 3400-3600 mile week seemed as a solo. I candidly admit that my mileage totals were done with averaging and hiding everything up on lines 1 and 2, etc., etc. I really am not being sarcastic here. I am just really interested in knowing how one can manage those kind of miles in a company truck week-in, week-out? Maybe it is my lack of OTR experience, as I seem to be the only one curious.

Still pretty good to me. Also it is fairly easy to me to run those types of miles because previously I ran team with my wife and we averaged 8,100 miles per week.

Lets see if I did the math right...... 16444 divided by 30 days in a month equals 548.86 miles per day...... So you never loaded, unloaded, fueled, ate, took a 34 hr reset, etc ???????
Riiiiiiiiiigggggggghhhhhhhhhttttttttttttt......... ........................

The way I calculate that is you shorted me 111.14 miles per day which comes up to another 3,334.20 potential more miles I could run. |
