I agree with freddog, talk to the drivers a see what they have to say.
These are the questions I would ask a perspective company: What equipment will I be using? What is my hometime going to be? Do you have pre-pass for scales/tolls? Do you have 24hr roadside maintainence available? Do they have health insurance? if so what is the premium??? Do they have a rider program for spouse/child? Will I have an assigned dispatcher? Do I have to take the truck home or I can I leave it at the terminal? Who are their clients??? Will I have to load/unload?? If so what is the pay?? BOL to you.

The short answer is you need to ask about everything that is important to you no matter how "dumb" you think the question is.
I would suggest sitting down and making a list of questions you want answers for and leave space for you to write those answers down. Make several copies of your list and use one list per company, that way you can go back and do a more accurate comparison.
