What was the reason then?
The low mile thing. When I ask if he receives a commission, he said "No, I get hourly...Wished I did, though."

Now I may be wrong, but I feel that if you put someone who dispatches on commission, they will go out of their way to give you the miles...the more miles you make, the more pay they get. Someone who is paid hourly doesn't care what you do, hence, all of the complaints from different company drivers of low miles.

Anyways, i was wondering if this is going in the industry. I know my dispatcher now receives a small salery, plus commission. ie, the more I do, the more he makes. It's all about greed. And sometimes, greed is good.

Just a thought.

Motivated people who are interested in their jobs and doing it well make all the difference in the world. This applies to any job on the planet.
Agree 100%. I had an excellent dispatcher. Don't know how he was paid, nevr asked. I do know that I busted my tail for him, & he kept me rolling, and respected my judgement calls regarding safety~~

Actually, not all that long ago.... The John Deere Institute did some research and the results of that research was that: The AVERAGE "Truck Driver" is better educated than the average American.

Guess thats a big hole in your theory.... 8)

Maybe most of your experiences with "dispatchers" have been with the wrong companies...... :? 8)

I agree...must have to do with the extra time sitting, so they find something to do. Pick up a book, watch the news, general discussion with others....
After a few years, it leads to getting more education so they look for other work. Funny part is, they almost always come back.

So the question should dispatchers be taken off the hourly salary, and be paid a commission....like CPM?

What do you think?
we dont have any dispatchers. the owner does it all. he has more incentive than anyone to keep me moving

No,we had a couple slower weeks but I always get 2 to 3000 miles a week. I get percentage so miles arent as important,, I work mon thru fri. and usually home once or twice during the week, I average $1000.00 take home. Some of the guys make more but I'm lazy.
the best check I have had was $1300.00 and the worst was $570.00

That's a slippery slope my friend.......My company just cleaned house at one our terminals because of something like that. Dispatchers and managers fired all for a couple of extra $$$$$$. Now we only use a handful of outside carriers for our overflow.
