Default company policies

do every company charge $1.00 for every mile you go off route? Is this normal?

never had it happen and i will go out of route 50-75 miles if it will save me time thay know it and have never said a word

Only if they have to come get the truck. That $1 a mile is recovery fees for abandoned equipment. That's pretty much standard.

Now, if they are actually charging you $1 per mile out of route miles, I'd be looking elsewhere. One wrong turn and you've blown a paycheck.

Yeah, will they pay you a $1 extra for cutting miles off your trip? Sounds fair to me.

Something doesnt sound right here;when they dispatch you do they give you the exact route they want you to follow? I have been driving 15 years and only worked for one company that had a policy like like but that was for going way out of your way ie; going from Chicago to Salt lake city and you swing down to Joplin Mo to visit a friend or whatever then they would charge you. If that is their policy I would start looking for a new company!

Ask politely to see this $1.00/mile off route policy in writing. Go as high up the ladder as you need to in order to get the answer--but be very nice about it.

Let us know what you find out.
