Start cold calling the LTL barns in your area. For the most part LTLs don't advertise or have headhunters like long haul outfits. Look at Foodservice, Garbage, and the construction related stuff as well. Keep in mind that Cement, Dirt etc will lay off in the winter.

Look at Foodservice
Scratch that one. Seeing that you are in NJ, they all want experience there. They all run NYC. Try the container haulers, garbage haulers, like someome said, LTL carriers, small trucking compaines(and there are many in NJ). You might luck out.

i went to ocnj its like a govt sponsored school that works directly with unemployment and one stop career center. i paid for time behind the wheel because i already had my permit and studied the regs and log book stuff on my own to save money. iwhen i finish i will have been there 2 weeks (50 hours) but its been all driving so i feel alright with the this school.

ima look into coldcalling some local spots. i guess ill have to find in the phonebook or like online somewhere but it didnt occur to me to cold call. thanks

If there are Terminals for LTL freigth companies near you, walk into their office instead of calling. You will have better luck, and will show that you are actually interested in a job, if they have one for you.

And if you believe they show the slightest interest in you though they don't have anything available now, don't be bashful about visiting them again (and again) in the coming weeks (just don't wear out your welcome). Things change, stuff happens, etc....
