I am posting this in the "Company" forum because as you look at companies .. that ISS safety rating is going to be more and more important. Why? Because comapnies with high ratings (low safety) are going to be pulled into the scale house more. That means money over time.
PrePass Begins Checking Safety Verification on a Monthly Basis 3/19/2007 PrePass announced it has increased the frequency of its safety rating verifications to ensure e-clearance decisions are based on the most up-to-date information available. As of last month, checks will be monthly, instead of the previous quarterly verification procedure. According to Doug Donscheski, chairman of the PrePass safety enforcement committee, "PrePass is soundly grounded in our commitment to improving highway safety. Our decision to increase the frequency with which we verify carrier safety ratings is consistent with those safety objectives." PrePass is a coast-to-coast system enabling qualified motor carriers to comply electronically with state weight, safety and credential requirements while traveling at normal highway speeds rather than stopping at state truck inspection facilities. Motor carrier participation is strictly voluntary and carrier eligibility is subject to state safety qualifications. PrePass verifies the safety rating of participating carriers through data from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Inspection Selection System (ISS2). Beginning late last year, ISS2 data updates became available on a monthly basis, making it feasible for PrePass to increase the frequency of its verifications. "We would envision further accelerating our frequency of safety rating verifications as more timely information is made available by the US DOT," said Richard P. Landis, president and CEO of HELP Inc, the public-private partnership that offers the PrePass service. Launched in California in 1995, PrePass is now operational at 277 locations in 27 states. More than 400,000 trucks have voluntarily enrolled in PrePass to take advantage of the time and money saving benefits. For more information, visit www.prepass.com. |
