as far as leaving your stranded, yes that sucks. But it happens. It could be worse. I have a buddy who worked on a cruise ship. He got fired for messing around with a lady passanger and got left in Iceland with 75 bucks to his name and no paycheck.

ok last post this time, in the dot book it says they cannot strand a driver, also He did everything in his power to try to not to be late, contacting the reiecver the dispatch etc, what more could be done when dispatch doesn't do their end?!

Now that would suck.

Oh wait, that's what got him into trouble in the first place.

Sorry, SD, couldn't resist that one.

Your way to overly sensitive about all this......

We are trying to help and if it means we have to be critical then so be it . I've been late once in my 4 years of driving where it was my fault , I overslept . If you find a decent company and there are plenty out there , they understand it's trucking and not the daytona 500 , as long as you call in asap and let them know the problem at hand , they usually understand . The earlier the better .

If by some coincidence, I get stuck in traffic 5 days in a row and I am late those days. Im going to be fired. Im not going to be able to tell my boss, "its not my fault there were wrecks".
Apples and oranges there sheepdancer(as a recruiter, you should know this), when driving to work, you can leave anytime you want, and if by day three you are being held up by traffic, you'd think by day four, you'd have it figured out and leave earlier. Where as truck driving, you are at the mercy of the load.

When I was with Stevens, I was once sick as a dog, mild flu, puking, you name it. I made my delivery in Memphis and called my fleet manager. Told him what was up and to please not dispatch me. He said no problem, he'd hold off dispatching me until I felt better. About an hour later, he hit me up on the Qualcommn. Told me they weren't dispatching me but they had a driver who wanted to come home to Memphis and was under a load that was heading for Charleston. They asked me if I would swap my empty trailer with his and "sit" on the loaded trailer until another driver, who was dropping of in Memphis in a few hours, could take over. I said no problem. After about a day, I was feeling better and called in.

i realize that drivers are bound my loads. However that doesnt change the fact that some drivers are never late on loads, some drivers are late all the time. I was only making the comparison with my job by showing no matter what the reason, I can still be blamed for things that are beyond my control. That is part of any job. I could run into traffic, My kid could need to be taken to the emergency room, My car could be stolen. My house could burn down. Even though those are all things beyond my control...too many of them and anyone could be canned.
Its not beyond the rhelm of possibility that her husband just had some really bad luck and couldnt help it 4 times. (really three times, I see being sick as at fault service failure) However, that one time he was late which he admitted being his fault makes the other 4 times look worse.
Like I said a service failure is still a service failure no matter what the reason.

Please cite the regulation to support this claim.

Better planning on your husband's end. He should know what is possible, and what isn't. If the schedule is so tight that he cannot compensate for a 2 hour delay due to an accident, then he should have warned dispatch before he even took the load.

I find it hard to believe that there are any carriers out there that dispatch on this tight of a schedule.
