Default JB Hunt - bait and switch?

My fiancee is still wondering about jumping to JB Hunt. We just found out I'm pregnant so he doesn't really want to go OTR. The JB Hunt recuiter he's talking to is telling him that if he does OTR for 30 days he can then put his name in for something local/dedicated and that the re-assignment will happen "right away." I'm skeptical because of things I've read on this board and elsewhere, and with me pregnant we really don't want him to get locked into an OTR job right when I really need him home the most. I'm concerned that they might be giving him the rosy picture now, then once he's OTR he'll be told there's nothing available regional/dedicated. Of course I'd like to believe the best but...

Any advice?

Yes, the company policy is that you stay in a position 30 days before you can switch jobs. Reality, depending on what area you live in and the number of dedicated jobs in that area it would most likely will take longer. On average I would say it takes 60 to 90 days to move.
Where do you live? If you live in someplace like Cowtip Kansas it might take a long time to find a dedicated job. If you live in some place like chicago where we have tons of dedicated jobs, it might only take 30 days.

We live in Western Massachusetts, so the facility he'd be operating out of is supposed to be Worcester. I don't know how busy they are. Around here JB Hunt does a lot of the Big Y supermarket deliveries, which is local, home every night sort of thing. That's what he'd really like to get into, our only concern is how long he'll be hanging out in OTR-land before that really comes to pass.

Thanks!

There are a few dedicated runs in that area. And we also run NE regional out of that area (which was just open for hiring yesterday) Honestly If I was going to give my best guess on how long it would take him to transfer out of OTR in Mass, I would say 60 to 90 days. The job that opens up the most in that area is the NE regional.
Tell me your zip code if you dont mind, you might be close enough to the conneticuit local jobs that are open right now.

Sure. We live in 01054. We aren't real close to CT right now, although most of his current runs are to CT, but we are moving within the next 6 months and have talked about moving closer to CT or at least closer to the routes that get him there. There are a lot more non-OTR trucking jobs in CT anyway, from what we can see, especially out of Hartford.

Thanks again!

Yep.....there is nothing in that area right now except OTR. I wish we were having this conversation yesterday, like I said. I had the NE loop regional open, Great job, home at least every weekend, maybe a little more during the week. and 42cpm.
I really cant tell you what to do....meaning whether or not he should go OTR first or wait and see if something else opens up. I guess that would depend if hes working now and needs the money. Something to keep in mind...we do have great insurance over here and being that you are now pregnant, that would sure come in handy.
I will personally keep an eye out on the Mass job list for you. If I see something open up, I will PM you. I wish I could predict with accuracy when that might be. however you just cant tell with those kinds of jobs. I might have something open up today.....it might be 2 months from now.

Wait...I just thought of something. Perhaps I can use this new mexican driver thing as a recruiting tool. I can call up Swift and Celedon drivers and tell them they are working for companies who dont like americans.
Ok I made up my mind....Im 100% for the mexican driver thing.
Be careful of a friendly face at JB Hunt. This is what can become of you, too.

But don't take my word for it.....look up his other post....I'll guarantee you he'll treat everybody the same.....next victim.

just my .02 cents

That was a little snide comment on the personal side don't you think.

She was asking about an empolyment issue , not wanting remarks on her being pregnant.

No one else said anything but I will, if you can't be nice to the expecting mom maybe you need to keep your mouth shut.
