13 speed is easy once you figue it out.

Try Roadranger.com, click on transmissions and select 13 speed. There is a pattern at the bottom of the page, and also a user manual in PDF format that you can download.

Here are the basics:
Reverse is all the way to the left and forward, LO is directly behind it all the way to the left and rearward. LO is rarely used at TMC.
Center forward is first, then second, third and fourth, flip the button up (like a regular 10) and shift to the center forward hole again. This is 5th low/direct. Accelerate to 1400 and flick the thumb switch forward. As you release the accelerator the transmission will shift to 5th high. Accelerate to 1400, flick the thumbswitch back and move the shift lever straight back into 6th low. Repeat all the way to 8th high/13th.

Note that tenth aka 7th low is ungoverned. You can accelerate all the way to top speed in that gear and some hills demand this. Not really good for fuel economy or engine durability but when you need to start out climbing a hill this is the highest gear you can sometimes attain.

Also note that you do not use the LO position all the way left and rearward while in high range with the button up. Something about it only works once. :lol:

I don't think you will fail the roadtest for shifting, since every single truck and transmission handles differently. There are no point deductions for rough or improper shifting.

They will expect you to use the trailer dump valve on every turn.
You will be expected to use the RIGHT lane. The RIGHT lane is always right(correct). When making a right turn start from the rightmost lane and as soon as your trailer is clear of the curb move the tractor back to the right lane. Do NOT buttonhook any turns on the road test. All turns can be made from the turning lane. When making a left turn start from the rightmost turn lane and end up in the rightmost travel lane.

They didn't tell us when to report back or where to go on Tuesday. Where do you usually meet for yard training and at what time?

I know it sounds complicated, but it's half as bad as it sounds...

I have a friend in East Bruswick (a little south, sort of cenbtral jersey) who owns a landscaping company, and has a huge lot. Locked, gated and all... He said I could park the truck there for the weekend. It's kind of far off for me, but it's a last resort thing. If i find something closer, I'll keep it here somewhere. If not, i have a definite spot over there...

There seems to be a designated spot in New Rochelle, NY for trucks in a huge parking lot, where i see a lot of them on the weekends, I'm just fgonna ask a 5-0 if it's cool with them... I rather drive 10 minutes home, than more than an hour. Tomorrow I'm gonna embark on looking for a spot much closer.
