LANDSTAR...?

The key to working for Landstar is to get hooked up with a good agent and stick with him.
I started with a bad agent and almost went broke, called HQ and got in touch with a great agent out of Rochester Ny.made great money but that had nothing to do with Landstar as they tried to take as much as they could. I also would consider only going there with your own trailer as the extra percentage makes a big difference, the 8% makes much more than the trailer payment. Some of the things that I hated about them was the fact that they take 2% right off the top(never could get an explination) so with your own trailer you make 75% of 98% of load revenue. We were running automotive freight and they come up with this idea of us needing to purchase qualcom's,alright I said as long as you are not going to use it against our logs and they said no we just need to track our freight for the customer. So I spend the 2,300 bucks for the system and after the first month I get 30 log violations and the 2nd month 20+,so needless to say I was not a happy camper. The internet load board is a cool function and would be a great tool if all the freight was posted there, but the only stuff that gets put up there is all the freight that the agents can't move by their own trucks, and usually does not pay very well.I found it very hard to make it by running the system as you are usually getting all leftover freight. I left when my agent left Landstar and went to work for him at another company, and I don't think that I would go back unless I had some kinda of sweet deal offered by an agent.

Yeah, you hit the spot, THANK YOU sir very much...
I did recieve little package in the mail with application and the printout of the load prices originating in 100 mile radius of Charlotte, NC. About 80% paid about 150-60 which after that % that they take out is less that 90cents per mile but that other 20% looked pretty darn good expecially loads going to Florida, which is the baddest place to go but since they are located down there i think it shouldnt be a problem getting out or..? I would like to find out Chicago rates or rates out of L.A. for ex. , i heard that if you get your loads on time in and out you can bring your rep up and thay would actualy call you ahead asking to book them with you. Logs are another thing which i dont like about these big companies and thats why i run for a small place here where they dont even ask me to turn them in, drive as much as you can just deliver safely attitude is what am also after. i heard you turn the logs every 2 weeks and if youre payin cash you can play a bit just matching the dates which i guess gives you some leverage, dunno.. |
