Default Superior Carriers....hire newbies?

Hello All!

I checked out Cyanide's post and under Superior Carriers he listed one year otr or student graduate from top 3% of class. I got on the website and it said 1 year otr required. I called recruiting and could not get a hold of the person in charge. Just wondering if Cyanide or anyone else could help me out with further info.

1) If they do take grads from an "approved" school, what is considered an "approved" school? (I'm in New Jersey).
2) Who can I contact?

Thanks for any help you can give.

I'm not sure of the schools they have for approval, but will suggest that you call one of the NJ terminal locations (preferably the closest to you) and hit the terminal manager there up for the info. "HQ" in Oak Brook, IL may not be able to give you as goood an answer as can the local terminal manager near you. The same goes for our food-grade sister company, Carry Transit... Good luck and let us know what happens !

fs1114,

I got on with Superior Carriers right out of CDL school. Here are some of the basics of my story and maybe they will help you.

Cyanide is right on who to contact. I contacted the local terminal directly. After talking with another guy here on the board who considered SC it appears that each terminal can make a certain amount of recruiting decisions on their own. The terminal manager in my area was very helpful and interviewed me right away. He had hired about a half dozen grads and was very positive on picking the highest quality grads he could find.

As far as approved school the terminal manager told me who they had hired from so far....that was his definition of approved. He had me fax over the course description from my CDL school and he reviewed it with his saftey supervisor....then approved my school.

Very good company in my opinion. I would have stayed but it did not take long for me to know that tanker was just not for me. But if I were ever to reconsider tanker SC is top on the list.

Default Thanks for the info...

Thanks Cyanide and Redeemed for the info. I'll be calling a couple of the terminal managers to see what they say. Cyanide, do you think that home time is effected by the terminal that you're out of? I'm 20 minutes from Rahway and Elizabeth.

Redeemed, is there any reason you didn't stay with tankers (if you don't mind my asking)? By the way, great avatar!!!

I'm also wondering about Langer in Jersey City. Guess I'll start another post.

Thanks again everyone, this site is awesome!

fs1114,

Sent you a PM to answer your question. Thanks for the compliment on the avatar. I tried to pick something that tells a little about me.

The terminal you run out of should have no efffect at all on time off. The company is set up so that once you leave out you are to be routed back to your home terminal within a week, regardless of location, unless YOU request otherwise. I think it's a very nice set up personally...

You don't have to drive to/from GA to work there...

That's simply the terminal that Skywalker and I are assigned to as it's the closest one for "road drivers". When it's hometime for me in Jax, as you'll read in my posts, I drop the tank at Southern there on Pulaski and park the truck over at the Carry Transit yard the next exit up. It works out nice since I'm literally paid to and from the house when coming in for time off and returning to work.

Do you work for Jim Cooner there out of the Jax yard MDF1576? I did...twice (but never, ever again)
