What about this!

Ok, I just talked with a company that has a run from Cincinnati OH to California. He said the it is a lease operation but not like your typical lease deal. Here are a few specifics. He said that I would have a truck payment of around $500 a week. Other then the truck payment the only other thing I would have to buy would be the fuel. He said that he pays for all the maintenance on the truck and so on. He said the reason he is doing this is so HE does not have to pay Workman's Comp Ins. He said that I could get it if wanted. He said I get to pick from Freightliner Classics and Pete 379's and a few others. He said the trucks are governed at 86 MPH but that does not matter to me because I do the speed limit. It all sounds fishy to me but I wanted to see what you all think. He said I run the truck Like a O/O. When I want to go home I just tell them and I go home. If I don't want to run for a few days I don't run but I still have that payment. What do you all think?? I want your opinions, both good and bad!

Sounds like the deal a company out of KC called SLX (used to be Ledar) does. Total ripoff operation.
Oh yeah. Depending on what company the truck is leased to or based in you may be required to have workman's comp insurance. Also it is doubtful you will have any benefits at all like paid vacation, health insurance etc. And speaking of insurance who pays for things like bobtail, liability, cargo, etc. Also who pays for the deductibles if you are in an accident or have a cargo claim. Who pays for the fuel taxes? There are many more things to know about than I have listed here.

Thanks for all your replies. I an extremely hesitant on this company for several reasons. First, I have never been a 0/0 so I do not know all the ins and outs about it. Second, have you ever heard the expression if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. Well, I think that this is one of those cases. Finally, I have read too many post on these lease deals. I have read about too many people getting the shaft. I do not want to be one of them. I think I will just steer clear for now. Thanks all!
