I worked for Cargo part time for three summers. It has been a few years since, but I will tell you how it was then.
You had to run a set number of miles a quarter to keep an assigned truck.
Anytime you came in someone was waiting to take your truck to use. Your truck may or may not be there when you need to leave. I had drivers waiting for me for several hours to get back so they could leave.
Hopefully this is not the case with assigned trucks anymore.
I refused to leave in three trucks in one night because they were too nasty. The filth was from the assigned drivers. The night dispatcher did not like it, but I told him to go look, and if he would sleep there, then I would. I got another truck.
The drivers of the dirty trucks were made to clean them up.
The dispatcher I had would rather lie than tell the truth. He no longer works there.
To be honest, the other dispatchers were mostly real nice. A lot of them had been drivers there, and knew what it was all about.
The trucks are new or almost new, and if you write up a problem it will be fixed. The main problem is getting drivers to write up the problems.
They are very safety oriented. They expect you to drive and act like a professional.
They have a nice building, and had a good benefits package back then.
I don't know how things are now that Mr. Pope, the owner, died. He seemed like a good guy to me.
The trucks are all automatics I think. 67 mph.
There were some very nice people who worked there who treated you good.
I haven't worked there for 8 years, so things may have changed for the better or worse. I would like to know myself.
I get postcards about three times a year asking me to come back.
I would go there before most of the big companies talked about on this forum.
