I wonder how many people left with a bad taste from outfits like CRE, Prime, etc leave trucking when they would have prospered at a good outfit like Gordon, CFI, or whatever.

Probably "untold THOUSANDS"!!!

Seems that some people just adopt a "mindset" based on unsubstantiated facts and dreams....and regardless of the warnings based on the experiences of others.....they leap out of the frying pan and into the fire.....only to have to end up eating crow later.

PT Barnum actually said "There's a SUCKER born every minute". Minor difference there between "sucker and fool"....they equate quite well

Caveat emptor, folks.

They lost my original "avatar"....oh well.

Actually, PT Barnum never said that. It was a banker named David Harnnum who mouthed those words and came from a hoax that was perpetrated on him by a Mr. George Hull, the creator of the Cardif Giant............

It never ceases to amaze me that whenever the subject of CRE comes up, the business experts abound. I know I'll catch a lot of flack by posting this, but I'm not so sure it's all CRE's fault. As a lease operator you're in business for yourself, and if you don't have the business skills to operate your business and you jump in with both feet, how pray tell is that CRE's fault when you fail?

Who shall we blame for all the independent O/O's that go under........is it the fault of the agencies who issue Authorities for giving someone an Authority without the person having the necessary business skills to run a business. Or maybe we can blame the insurance company for issuing the necessary policies to get your Authority. Better yet, let's blame the consignment companies or the brokers for paying lousy rates........

And yes, I've seen the numbers posted by the so called experts to prove their positions that a CRE lease is equal to sharecropping..........I've even talked with former CRE lease operators who lost their shirts, and low and behold it's always the CRE's fault.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying CRE is blameless..... anymore than any other trucking company is..........but it would be very interesting to see just how many failed lease operators in truth had not business going that route to begin with............they had no experience, they had no business skills and no working capital............and yet it's all CRE's fault. Granted, maybe CRE's needs to expand their requirements to qualify for a lease operator, but then that could be said industry wide..........

The truth is very few truck drivers just getting into this business, have the necessary skills to run a business as their own..........my brother runs for CRE under lease, and he's doing quit well, thank you...........well enough that he has decided to sign a 3 year lease if they give him what he wants..........on the average he's made about $1,100 per week net............I've personally met a few of his colleagues who are doing quit well with CRE.........two different ones who have been with CRE over 10 years...........comparing what he's made with CRE to that with what you could make as a company driver just starting out, it's not too bad.

As I said, I think it would be very interesting to see an in-depth study done to see just how bad CRE really is by someone other than drivers, who as we all know are about as objective in their opinions, as Bush is concerned about the middle income families when it comes to taxes breaks.

Okay.........now, let the crucifixion begin.

You make a good point Lifespalette. It would be interesting to see the dataset on how CREs do.
