Main concerns are pay and decent hometime. Looking at vans mostly. Cant
work for Roehl because I had disorderly conduct ticket about 4 years ago. and they have a 5 yr min. on misdemeanors. I would also like to work for
a company that respects their drivers.
VMC seemed like a decent company when they came by our school. They are a primarily SE regional dry tanker company whos nearest terminal is somewhere in Alabama. They are small, I think only about 70-80 tractors. I think you would find probably more hometime in the ATL area with them than with anyone else, but you are going to need a place to park your tractor when you are home.
Watkins Shepard runs furniture and carpet out of Dalton Ga. I run with them. You do a 10 day orientation rather than run with a trainer. Many folks find this to be appealing. Please take a look at the W&S threads ..
Ah .. I could be wrong but I don't think CFI is going to be all that great for someone who wants significant hometime in the ATL area. Your closest real terminal is West Memphis but they do have a "drop yard" somewhere around here. I was told you could park your tractor there was room in the drop yard, or you can take it home, if you have room.
I live in the ATL area right now, and I'm going CFI real soon .. I dont expect it to be all that great for hometime, but then again, I dont care. If I get back here once every 3 weeks thats ok with me. Assuming everything works out ok, I'm probably looking to just set up camp in Joplin and get a place to stay there in a few months.
I've done some research / talked to a few people. General consensus is West Memphis = NOT nice and Joplin = NICE, so if the folks are cool with me setting up home base at Joplin Im just gonna do that.
might want to check out Millis. Friend of mine works there and he gets home very regularly. They have drop yards all over the state and a big terminal in Cartersville. He went through their school and really seems to be enjoying working for them. Never heard nothing negative on this board about Millis.
