Well, thanks to a group led by OOIDA, many in the U.S. Senate and the Legislature had their eyes opened to the dangers of opening the southern border to the Mexican based trucks. Which led to a postponement of the border opening. Thanks to OOIDA, DAC has changed some of there policies in accepting reporting (black listing) drivers (of course there is still a case pending with DAC), Because of OOIDA, hundreds, maybe thousands, of drivers have received moneys due to them by the unreputable practices of several companies, because of OOIDA there is an ongoing challenge of the current HOS - in an attempt to bring some balance between safety and drivers rest, and the list goes on.

Down here in South Texas, up to the current trade zone, many of us already have to deal with Mexican based trucks and drivers, that cannot read or speak English, that have no method of accounting for how long they have been driving or on-duty, that have no safety accountablility for the equipment that they are driving. Just last week in Laredo, I followed a loaded Mexican truck - and you can bet I made a phone call to TXDOT:
1. This guy was driving 35mph in a 70
2. 1 brake chamber on the front tandem was hanging from the air line
3. Brake chamber on the rear tandem was completely missing, the line had been pinched off with vise grips (visible from behind)
4. No Brake lights
And I am sure the list goes on. DOT finally stopped this truck going north bound on I35 at the 17 mile marker. As I past this guy, I noticed the drivers door was held closed by a bungee. The tractor appeared to be a early to mid '70's cab-over, could not tell what make.

Although this could possibly be a worst case scenario, imagine a truck at even half the visible defects passing through OK City, Tulsa or any other town in your home state.

I am sure that since you state OOIDA does nothing, I must have assumed you were not a professional driver that keeps up with trucking issues that effect not only us drivers, but the entire economy as a whole.

Just my opionion and thoughts,

Thank You,

Louis\

Dangers? You're either a rookie who's never been anywhere or you are being completely selective in your "ire". Anyone who's been driving for any length of time has seen dangerous American drivers all over the place, to state that Mexicans are any less safe than any other driver is doing so out of flat out ignorance or for political expedience.

I happen to think that DAC has helped more than it has hurt. Has it hurt some drivers? Sure it has..Does that mean that the whole program is evil? Not in your wildest dreams.

More selectivity and CB drivel / hysteria...

Just last week in Laredo, I followed a loaded Mexican truck - and you can bet I made a phone call to TXDOT:
Do you want a cookie?

1. This guy was driving 35mph in a 70

So the guy doesn't get credit for driving less than 70 in that condition or where you mainly mad because he wasnt "hammer down" and simply slowed you down? I could tell you more horror stories about trucks in companies that I have seen and companies that I HAVE ACTUALLY WORKED FOR in the past! EVERY one of the things you stated, I saw on trucks in one day and in one place (our yard) . I refused to drive 4 of the five trucks there because of it.. the other "good old American drivers" had no qualms about taking off in them and driving them like crazy people.. They were ALL gone by the time I delivered and returned. Now this might be shocking to you, but not me. I've seen this all over the country and I'm betting that you have too.. you are just for some "mystical" reason singling out the Mexicans for this level of scrutiny..

Although this could possibly be a worst case scenario, imagine a truck at even half the visible defects passing through OK City, Tulsa or any other town in your home state.
Been there done that, go the T-shirts.. and it again will shock you, they were ALL American trucks. Do you want to look silly when we talk about the law of averages between Mexican and American vehicles that you are likely to get killed by?

I am sure that since you state OOIDA does nothing, I must have assumed you were not a professional driver that keeps up with trucking issues that effect not only us drivers, but the entire economy as a whole.
I think you have people confused, and of course your "Joe Boxers" tightly wadded into your caboose... I never said that they "do nothing". They are rather selective in what they seem to want to get upset about. Like the ACLU, they sometimes seem to want to protect some rather scummy people to keep their name out there!
