Is anyone interested in exchanging audio books? I don't have much of a library right now, but it is expanding each week. I find it makes the long hours of driving pass much faster. If you are intersted why not place your name with email so others can contact you for your titles.

Not a bad idea. I don't drive..but I do sell books and tend to have a few audiobooks float through. I don't remember the rules for posting a link to my listings on ebay so I won't unless a mod says I can... name is skits_booksandsuch though. If anybody here wants any audiobooks that I have up just let me know before they get bought/have bids on them and I'll send them drivers way without charge. I had never really thought about them being useful for drivers, as my hubby is too picky for most of them. Great idea though!

 

I like the Video books. Ya know, the movies that are based on books... :P :lol: :P Terry, sounds like a plan. Be thinkin about it.

 

It's a great idea-in all the years of driving I never picked up a audio book at a truck stop but wanted to but never did.

I'm more into Language lessons...but ready to add a nice book Library as well. I think I'd be most inclined to go for the Comedy....surprize--surprize.

I buy a DVD and watch it once. I have a feeling books will be the same for me. That's why I like Language lessons...it keeps me interested over and over. But like you say...trade the sucker...it's just gonna sit in a file.

 

Just like yoopr, I have thought about it, but have never actually gotten one. Have wayyyyy too many DVD's tho. :lol:

 

I don't have everything figured out. My thought was either borrow the audiobooks or a straight trade. Provide a list upon request and work it out between the two parties. I find myself buying 4 or 5 audiobooks every couple of weeks. I am accumulating quite a few. I buy only the unabridged versions.

Speaking of language tapes, which ones do you use? I wish to become truely fluent in Spanish and I am considering buying the Pimsleur System.

 

Well...dang it. My old laptop had the fan go out, and it started over-heating. All my stuff is on my XP system, and I am not making the transition on Vista well at all. I do have the files backed up onto an external hard drive. I am going to be busy for awhile setting up this new system, and trying to salvage what files I can.

I may invest into another laptop which uses XP. You know...buy a used/refurbished one, and make life simple for the time being. My local repair shop sells business grade machines with XP. Those laptops are supposed to be faster than these commercial ones and made with better quality components. I should have just delt with them...and "listened" to them. They want $700 for a good one...and could transfer all my stuff for me, for a fee.

I'm sure they can also explain how to send these audio files through email. All of mine are on my computer. I buy my stuff through iTunes mostly.

I have the language lesson on CD, though. It is a Berlitz French... 6 CD's. I just installed it on my iTunes, so I could download it all onto my iPod.
Now that I have the Garmin 660 like you...I can put it over onto a flashcard and play it off the Garmin patched into the Truck speakers. I hate trying to run CD's in my Truck, as they skip a lot. Plus...more trouble scrolling through it, or changing disc's if you are driving.

I'm guessing you put the audio files into a compressed zip file, and email it. Should be simple enough. A buddy of mine sent me a zip file of guitar music that way. It was a huge file...so it took like 20 minutes or so to open. It has to be equivalent to several audio books...it was a big file. 24,000 guitar tab songs. :shock:

I think once I get back on my feet with this computer situation, I'll check this out. At worse...the USPS would be fine. I think you need to get certain DVD's to burn that much data though...or you'd be doing like a dozen CD's for a book??

 

Pimsleur is good. But you really want to hear excerpts of the lessons first. A good place to check them is with Amazon. I think you can listen to audio file examples.
For me...that is the most important issue with a Language lesson. Can you stomach the Teacher's voice...or even understand them clearly enough. Some are good, and others are not...even within the same Company brand.

I suppose that would also make some difference with books. If you can't stand the voice...:lol: it could turn into a very short book. :lol:

Audible.com is another place you can hear excerpts. I thought about joining them...but you are paying a membership whether you buy files or not. Thing I like with iTunes...you just buy what you want when you want it....with no extra costs or membership fees.

I have a German and a Spanish language lesson too. Well...technically. They are loaned out to family....along with over-half my CD's and DVD's.
I could be looking at going to Judge Judy to retrieve them? :lol:
