Default Al Davis dead at 82

What a sad day for any NFL fan. No nonsense approach and was always taking issue with the NFL on anything he felt like taking issue with. What a character he was. Just win baby

I bet Clee is inconsolable right now. Al was an icon. But, no one lives forever. RIP Al.

I really had no idea that he basically started from the bottom and worked his way up as an owner and head of the AFL at one point.

Al was alot like Steinbrenner and many others who pioneered sports in America. Not everyone liked them... but, all true fans respected them. He will be missed.

I would never admit to being an Earnhardt fan... but, I totally respected his accomplishments and his dedication.

Al did a LOT for the NFL.

Aint nothin wrong with be a #3 fan! I miss Dale..

I knew Al Davis was not in the best health, but I didn't know that he was 82. I didn't realize all that either, Mr. Ford. I didn't know Al coached the Raiders, I just thought maybe he bought the team one day.. I knew he owned them for many years, but I didn't know he started as a coach. Did he coach before or after Madden?

Ok.. I wasn't sure when Madden coached, but I knew it was in the 'old days'.
Al Davis had the most positive attitude. He wanted to win. Didn't care how, or how much he spent on players, coaches, he wanted to win..

He was what Jerry Jones is before Jerry Jones came along as far as an owner goes. Jerry Jones wanted to be like Al Davis

Thing is, Al liked to go after players that were cast-offs. They had freakish talent but there was a reason they were cast-off by another team, he'd snatch those guys up and a lot of times it worked out. Remember him picking up Hostetler to replace Jay Schroeder after the New York Giants decided to not re-sign him.
