Default Nascar Hauler in major crash

in West Texas on the 10. Happened earlier in the week but few details have been released on the cause. What police do know is that the hauler for Roush Racing's #6 team hit a motorhome which in turn hit another semi which in turn hit yet another semi. No word on who was driving the hauler but former Cup driver Joe Millikan co-drives the truck and was last known to be in serious condition at the hospital. All others involved were treated and released. The hauler had just left from Las Vegas where the teams were doing a final test for tracks where downforce counts the most and headed back to Charlotte, NC. No word on whether the 2 cars for David Ragan were damaged in the crash.

I'm curious as to why they were on the 10 instead of taking 40 all the way home, where they trying to dip below the weather in the Plains?

It happened just before the Border Patrol checkpoint on I-10 east near Sierra Blanca. There are plenty of flashing lights at least a mile before you reach this checkpoint warning drivers to slow down as it funnels into one lane at the checkpoint. No reason this accident should have happened, guess the dumbass was blind or not paying attention. He's lucky he did not kill himself or the co-driver in the bunk not to mention the elderly couple in the RV but they did end up in the hospital. His rig was destroyed. Hope he never drives again.

heavenbound, Yahoo Sports' Nascar page had a story on it but not many details were being released.

Yoop, 40 is a direct beeline for Vegas from Charlotte and is the way most every team runs to get there, California and Phoenix. Some have dropped to the 20 to get under bad weather and a few years ago a number dropped down to the 10 to get under the ice storm coming thru the Plains on their way to Vegas.

Here ya go Heavenbound, from Yahoo/Jayski:

Quote:
Truck driver Jesse Bear, tells ABC-7 the tractor-trailer struck a motor home in the rear. According to ABC-7 reporter Darren Hunt, the front part of the rig s cab was completely torn off. The NASCAR hauler, owned by Roush Racing, was only transporting the AAA-sponsored racecar. Driver David Ragan was not involved in the wreck. Bear adds there were "a few other vehicles in the wreck, but everything was crushed together." Crews diverted eastbound traffic from the Interstate to an access road as crews cleaned up the scene. According to Border Patrol agents at the checkpoint, the hauler struck a motor home, which then struck another 18 wheeler, that then struck a 2nd tractor trailer. Emergency radio transmissions indicated that at least one person was rushed to Thomason Hospital with serious injuries. Emergency officials add there were 3 other persons transported to local hospitals. Emergency crews with Culberson County, Hudspeth County, and Ft. Hancock all responded to the scene of the accident. Law enforcement officials tell ABC-7 accidents of this type are not unusual for the checkpoint, as drivers aren t expecting to have to stop quickly, just off the interstate
