Default Should Truck Drivers Get Minimum Wage?

A new ruling may mean a boost in pay for a lot of drivers. And the trends towards a living wage could mean a renaissance for the truck driving career.

Quote:
...if the suit ends in the truckers’ favor, then a US federal court will have ruled that truck drivers are entitled to the federal minimum wage of at least $7.25 per hour for a full 16 hours a day (all the time not spent sleeping). This includes time that would otherwise be considered “off-duty”.

Read our complete article, and let us know your thoughts.

While in Theory such application would help ALL DRIVERS, the reality is that ALL Consumer Goods would simply INCREASE IN PRICE (like they have been doing because transportation costs keep rising) thereby nullifying the "raise/increase in pay".

NO Freight Handling Company would easily absorb such added pay for Trucking/Delivery Drivers since the fumbling feral buffoons would not endorse such adventure (they just support the initiation/implementation of such "requirement" yet NOT the financial side unless such activities benefit the fumbling feral buffoonery) AND the Drivers who believe such would happen are the ones that know not a manual transmission from a universal joint.

Think there's a "driver shortage" now?
I hope you understand a decrease in Driver hiring IF/WHEN such insane practice is implemented.
Some Companies may well just FOLD UP (hopefully not like Jevic or Arrow, to name but 2).

Think companies are going to absorb the increased reduction in their profits?
- -Companies will simply raise their rates to haul products (and BROKErs will continue to pay LESS) which, as stated at top of page, WILL AFFECT Consumer Prices therein "nullifying the increase in Driver Pay".- -
It's as clear as the bug smear on your windscreen and the fodder on yer mudflaps.

Mileage Pay would be REDUCED to compensate for the "hourly wage" so it's still a lose/lose proposition.

This has been discussed for some time. In reality, should this will not work. If you are currently only making minimum wage as a driver, you are not doing your job. The end result will be more regulations, lower wages and fewer driver jobs. A few major carrier's are already testing fully automated driverless trucks. When government gets too involved in wages companies will find ways to offset those costs. As an example look what happened in California when fast food restaurants were forced to significantly raise wages. Companies like McDonald's and others cut jobs and automated. For the most part drivers are well compensated for their efforts. It is unreasonable to expect carrier's to pay drivers for not working activities such as eating, taking a shower, or sleeping. Few jobs pay as well as trucking with only a few weeks training. A number of carrier's are currently offering mileage rates of $.50/mile or more. Too many people want something for nothing. There are no free rides.

Default irony of fate

For me, as a truck driver, the issue of the minimum wage is very important. I decided to find out more about it and therefore read some essays on this topic at https://studydriver.com/minimum-wage/. This is a great service where you can find an essay on any topic or just order an essay. It is very convenient and simple.
From the information I read, I realized that raising wages for truckers could come back quite unexpectedly. As scientific and technological progress is now moving at a rapid pace, so in areas where human labor is becoming unprofitable and expensive, there are works or the process performed by man is automated.
Of course, in our field, automation will not come so soon, but it will. And if the employer is not satisfied with the cost of wages, he can just fire everyone, and automate all processes. Here is the irony of fate.

Traditionally, truck drivers are paid by the number of miles they drive, which means they are not paid for time spent waiting for shipments to be loaded and unloaded or for hours they are forced lite blue
