So if you apply for a new job and one of the companies you worked for either:
a) no longer exists or b) was bought out by another company or c) merged with another company Then how does it work as far as employment verification?

Do you have any W-2's from them? Anything at all? If So list them as out of business and provide copies of what you have.

I had to do that for a govt application I filled out. I found it a bit comical and sad. "You must provide us with ALL information on those previous jobs." The one hasn't existed for about 15 years now and the phone number is no good, didn't matter, had to have it. Another one did not have anyone there who could actually vouch I worked there 16 years ago. All those people had moved on.........but yet they HAD to know about it.......hey guys, your the govt, just call over to the IRS and ask them, they got my W2's from every job I've worked in my life.
