Default HOS crash course

I've never had to learn logging and HOS since obtaining my CDL in 2004 because I punch a time clock. I've got an application in with a company that may do logs and have a good chance at getting hired. So now I'm crash coursing to learn a little bit. I know the basic, 11 driving, 14 duty. They only work 5 days a week, so would I worry about my 60 or 70 limit? Once I start my clock on duty, the 14 doesn't stop, correct? I've been trying to bone up on the FMCSA site but just when I think I've got the hang of it, the next example smacks me down. I might be worrying more than I need to but I want to be as ready as possible to get this job!

Your 14 hours doesn't stop once it is started. Must take a break to get a new 14.

14hrs X 5days = 70hrs

Thanks Fredog, that first link is broken down pretty well in detail to understand. It did answer another question I had!

So Scott, let's say I hit my 70 limit in 5 days, I would be good to run again after a 34 reset or do I have to wait longer?

It's really simple
#1 you have 14 hrs from the time you start your day to complete all of your driving
#2 in that 14 hrs you can drive up to 11 hours and that's it!
#3 somewhere in the first 8 hrs you need to take a half hour break, if you don't you can't drive till you do, this does NOT extend your 14 hour clock! (This allows you to use the last 3 hours or so of your 11 hrs driving time.)
#4 If your only working 5 days (like me) I get a 34 reset every weekend even if you max out your 70.

Gotcha repete, I over think at times! Like I said, never have had to do it or learn it. Did learn about the adverse conditions provision that I didn't know existed.

Good luck with the new job! Over think?? Hell you should see some of the things I over build!
I've never paid any attention to the adverse condition thing, if things are that bad that Can can't get my run done in 11 hrs then to hell with it I'm shutting it down. I've been doing the same run for over nine years now and only shut down a few times and nobody's ever said a thing about it.
