It was 1999 or 2000. I applied at a trucking terminal (Major Company)to be a mechanic helper. I had a Class B permit a couple years earlier, but not at time of application. I had smoked w/ friends (young and dumb) and didnt know it stayed in system along time. I do NOW!! When Doctor called to confirm i failed, I never contacted truckin company again...embarrassment...This is not an issue in my life, i do not even drink alcohol. I consider driving trucks a serious occupation and as a driver would continue to take it seriously. I am clean in all ways, and intend to be for life. Am I screwed? Will being honest about this screw me, or was it long enough ago that I can move on and prove myself? Recruiters say if it wasnt in last 3 years I should be fine...but what do u guys think??

If it's been within the last 3 years, the results are made available to companies and you're mostly screwed. If it happened a long time ago, being honest about things will most likely equally screw you since most companies operate with a "no tolerance" policy. Admit it and you're gone, basically.
That said, in the end it's going to be up to you. If you don't mention it and there's not a criminal charge that will pop up on a criminal history report, then a company is probably not going to know about it. But you will. Good luck. |
