Thats because the standard book says that, but the book that contains the "guidance" makes the allowance for it....that is the ability to use the CMV, (tractor only) for a personal conveyance and logging off duty.

I'm aware of that, but that isn't the point. The regs specifically say that ALL time spent at the controls of a CMV are to be logged as ON DUTY, yet the time spent at the controls of a CMV for personal conveyance can be logged as OFF DUTY. They contradict each other.

Please don't misunderstand what I posted. I am in 100% agreement with you. The standard FMCSR book says one thing, but the FMCSR book with the "guidance" in it says another.....and they are most definitely contradictory. Just posted that so that some who are unaware that another version of the book is available...and it could prevent problems for them...or keep them from wasting HOS when they bobtail to eat, shop, etc. HOS seems simple enough, but let the FED get into anything and it gets turned into a "Mars Mission" with the Three Stooges in control :lol:
