Default Ifta

We are down to the wire to file our third quarter IFTA. Returns must be postmarked no later than midnight on the last day of this month. I filed mine earlier this week. I still had a few loads to input into my software so it took a little longer to complete the forms. My state requires that carriers file online instead of with paper forms. When the website works properly, it doesn't take long to do the return, but the website in my state has had its share of issues.

I upgraded to the new Foglines (Trucknpro) Professional Business Manager software a few weeks ago, but decided to finish the quarter with the Trucknpro Elite that I have been using. I still had a few loads to put into the software so it took a little longer to get everything caught up. Had I kept up on my bookkeeping all I would have had to do was to print out a report. I don't like to be late filing the quarterlies.

My IFTA did go up this quarter. I don't know the reason other than some fuel taxes went up in Pennsylvania and I had quite a few miles in the state. Another possibility is my fuel mileage has been higher for a while. That could be due to me keeping my speed down more and I have been doing more deadheading. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that their fuel tax has gone up this quarter?

Yep, I always get some back, I do 75% of my miles there, I always break even or get some back, and if I gotta pay, it's usually 6 or 7 bucks.

Im doing this run going on 5 years, tried it every way ya can........works best buying ONLY in pa, maybe once or twice in NJ or Ohio.

I rarely spend more than $25/quarter for IFTA. This quarter I sent them a check for $52. I have not broken down the costs, but I used to come out pretty well buying in the cheaper fuel (at the pump) states, when it came to paying at the end of the quarter. Of course, it is more than what you pay at the end of the quarter. Sometimes, you may pay more at the end of the quarter, but pay less for fuel. If you have the time and are so inclined, you could take the price you are paying at the pump, take off the fuel tax and see what you are really paying for the fuel. Sometimes, it is better to buy in the higher fuel tax states. Other times, it is better to buy more in the cheaper states. It can get a little complicated.

I do have ifta but 95% of my running is in my home state of PA. once in a while i run into DE. only reason i keep IFTA. If it wasnt for DE i would just have state fuel stickers. Then no more paperwork lol
