Fuel!
FUEL IS UP RATES ARE DOWN!
I CANT SPEAK FOR RGN, REEFER,OR VAN BECAUSE I PULL A 53' FLATBED.
LAST YEAR MY MINIMUM WAS $2.00 PER MILE AND $3.00 MINIMUM AS I PULL 60' OVERSIZE .
I HAVEN'T HAULED A LOAD SINCE THANKSGIVING ! AS I WILL NOT HAUL FOR WINTER RATES .I LET THE GUYS WHO NEED IT MORE THAN ME HAUL IT.
BESIDES IT'S WINTER ! TARPING YUK!:moon:THERES NO MONEY FOR TARPS ALL INCLUSIVE !
SO I POSTED MY TRUCK YESTERDAY FOR $2.50 A MILE ON ITS.
I GOT TWO CALLS ONE FROM BEAR TRANSPORTATION, WHICH I PROMPTLY TOLD HIM I DONT HAUL FOR BEAR! BOTTOM FEEDERS ! AND THERE'S ALOT OF THEM UTI .
THE OTHER WAS LANDSTAR, CALLED LATE IN THE EVENING, 200 MILES, 100 DH, AND OF COURSE TARP FOR $500.00 I PROMPTLY TOLD HIM NO THANKS ! SHORT MILES SHOULD PAY BETTER AND THIS WAS LATE .
SO WOULD IT BE LIKE PULLING TEETH TOO ASK YOU FLATBED OWNER OPERATORS TOO ALSO POST YOUR TRUCK FOR MONDAY FOR $2.50 PER MILE?
IF YOU THINK THATS TOO MUCH YOU SHOULD REALLY THINK ABOUT YOUR COSTS AND SACRIFICES .DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO, IM JUST SAYING -ASKING !
LETS SEE IF WE CAN GET SOME SOLIDARITY ON THIS! WHO WILL STAND BEFORE WE ALL FALL.
WELL, IM WINDED NOW BEING AS I HIT SPELL CHECK AND LOST IT ALL AND HAD TO RETYPE IT! WHICH I ALMOST DIDNT.
SORRY FOR THE CAPS ITS JUST EASIER FOR ME TO SEE!
GOD BLESS THE WORKING MAN.

We just got back home. It was very frustrating trying to find decent work. Spent a lot of time in between loads looking for work. I managed to do ok but I was starting to lose patience with some of the offers I was getting and I almost deadheaded home from Charlotte, NC.
Hell one guy chuckled as he spit out the rate. Cheap s**t must have been flying off the docks though cause their was plenty of it.
I'm not sure if I'm leaving again until spring.

That's where not having a truck payment helps out
I used to sit out from Nov.24th till mid March until I got into tankers. Now with my dedicated turn, I only work 4 days and clear a descent check.

I wanted to take these two months off but I can't afford it this year. I don't have to work the entire two months but I can't sit for the whole two months.

This happened Tuesday of last week. This was a big brokerage house that called me.
9am:
Broker: Hello this is so and so from so and so. I got a load from
Moncure, NC to Lancaster, PA.
ME: Yeah I saw it on the board.
B: Would you be interested.
ME: No, I don't really want to head north just yet, but thanks for calling.
B: I could do 1100.00 on it.
ME: No not interested but thanks for calling.
11:30am Same broker calls back but it's a different guy.
Broker: Got a load from Moncure NC to Lancaster, PA 400 miles I
could probably get you 900.00.
ME: Really, I was offered 1100 a couple hours ago.
B: (studdering) What was his name?
ME: Bob
B: Oh, well he's right there with the customer he can make those
decisions. If I can get you the 1100 would you be interested?
ME: No, I turned down 1100 two hours ago because I didn't like the
rate, nothings changed.
B: What would it take?
ME: 1300.00 AND you get it to 45k pounds. I'll go pick it up. (It was
46,600)
B: (snickers) They won't do that but I'll make a note of it.
ME: ok thanks for calling.
1:30 pm Broker calls back again. The second one that called and snickered at
the 1300.
Broker: Dave, they pulled the trigger on the 1300 if you are still available.
ME: Yep, you got it 45k or less?
Broker: I don't think they'll do that but they have a scale on site.
ME: oh ok then I'll take it at 46,600.
Broker: Let me put you on hold Dave be right back. (about 30 seconds
pass and he comes back) Dave they said if you can't scale
48k then they won't load you.
ME: ok no problem have a great day.
I immediately pulled up the board after I hung up and the load was gone. Bet some sucker took it at 900.00

Rosty C, That is hilarious......
My cousin called me last week told me a broker called him and said he had a load going 189 miles rate is $450, My cousin said he can't do it for $450, but if you give him $500 he will take it, lol... (I told him he should have asked for $650- 700).. So the broker said let me call you back in a min, Broker calls back and says ok we can give you $503 dollars. I got Kristeen to give u to give you an extra $3 dollars. LOL
LMAO, This is why the rates are so cheap. People not knowing the true cost of their operation and not knowing when to say No to CHEAP freight...
