good or bad?
I am waiting on my authority to get finalize. I am thinking about signing up with a company, before i go out on my own. i came across this company and want to get some opinions , about there power plan. i was told by the recruiter that, you have to have additional 250k cargo insurance and 25k trailer interchange. The deductions are 19.95 week for qualcomm, $500 for qualcomm installation reimbursed after 6mo. I was told owner ops run about 3000 to 4000 weekly. Fuel card is issued, but you can have your own. The average deadhead is 5%, some where between 1.50 to 1.60. they do have company trucks, but i was told o/o get the high paying load, and they are dispatch by the vice president of co.
Just wanted to get some ideas, before i adventure out on my own! Thanks

Sounds like some BS right there. WHy would they give the O/O the higher paying loads and not their own trucks??

Yep, your typical DOG N PONY SHOW.......
It's just simple math.
Pay you the high freight (lets say $3.00pm)
or pay a Co. Driver $0.40cpm and pocket the other $2.60pm
Just like everyother company, you always go with the cheaper labor rate.
After you go to work for them, and they screw you over for a month or two, and you quit. Not only did you move their freight for ****ty rates, but they will also be charging you back for Qualcomm and whatever else they feel like. It will hurt you more than them.
Don't fall for it.

I agree with Mack and SHC. I would be very surprised, even if they are a reefer company or flatbed, if they are actually averaging (pay to you) $1.50 to $1.60 and you as a solo driver can run that many dependable miles. There’s a lot of companies out there right not that would love to be averaging $1.60 a mile with 5% deadhead. There are a lot of things here that just don’t make sense. I’d RUN, not walk away from this place unless I had a bunch of their o/o showing me settlements showing that they’re telling the truth.

I hate to be a naysayer, it’s just that what you are describing is very much like the power only programs offered by many bigger carriers like JB Hunt or Interstate Distributors, minus the fuel cards, and they’re paying a heck of a lot less than what you’re talking about. If something sounds too good to be true…
I wouldn't expect more than $1.40 per loaded mile from a power only program and not much more than 3k miles a week, if you're lucky. Trust me, I have first-hand knowledge in this area.

And was that before rates took a huge dive at the end of 2008, or after?

Give the name of the company. That is your best chance at getting the best info about the company.
