Mackman i was wondering how is the dump truck/ construction business treating you these days? i was also wondering what kind of work do you mostly do, such as hauling dirt/rock/sand or do you do alot of paving or etc and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each type of work? and finally how much time do you spend on maintaing the truck and what type of work do you do in the winter time to keep the truck bussy since construction kinda slacks off.

I been busy. I been making good money so far. I still have 2 contractors that i worked for owe me about 2,500. Their checks should be coming any day.

Most of the time I'm working for the quarry hauling black-top and stone. It is a good job so far. Its nice they pay once a week. In the winter time the quarry is open all year long. But they do slow up but you should still be bale to get 2-3 loads a day. Right now I'm running around 6-7 loads a day. I hope to have all my truck payments paid come the winter months so i can get by on 2-3 loads a day. Plus i can always haul salt. But i did hear that salt pays real peanuts. So un-less I'm broke and the repo man is knocking at my door i wont haul salt.

The best work i like with a dump is hauling black-top getting paid by the hour. I get around 75/hr and there is alot of waiting. In an 8hr day i make 600 bucks and sometimes go less then 100 miles. To make 600 a day hauling stone you will run around 200-250 give or take.

So far the truck has not cost me a dime. But tri/axle dumps love to eat up tires. Seems like you cant keep steer tires on them.

It depends company to company. With no exp. your better off going to wotk for a contractor with its own dump trucks. Then a trucking company with dump trucks. Some companys want 5years and other will take you with no exp. at all. Its hard to say. But the good teamster dump trucks jobs you can have 20 years exp. But unless you know someone you will never get the job.

I some times miss doing dump work until I remember not working for 4 months of winter and the "pucker" effect our frameless 40' would give you when you had the box in the air with 28 tons of sand and on a soft sand bottom.... UGH!!!!

Nice dump trailer. Looks like a MAC! yea i really like dump work. Home every night and work around 10hrs a day. Have to run like crazy in the summer and fall and save your money for winter. I did think about the FLD you had for sale. But i didnt know what to do with it. But it was a hell of a price.

Yes, it is a MAC. I had a CH613 that I used for a year then got that Columbia, which was the biggest POS I ever bought (damn Mercedes motor)

Yeah, I wound up keeping the FLD. The guy that came to buy it actually bought my IH instead. And to be honest, I didn't want to sell the FLD LOL

It was my 1st truck I ever bought and the best too. It's at the shop right now getting a 6-pack installed and a dyno-tune. Next month is 3.55's and the front-end rebuilt........ she's too good to let go.

I will one-day tho get me a Rawhide, and just like the black one you posted....... maybe next summer
