Yes, but take off about 10%, those older ECM's not that accurat. My showed 7.7mpg, but in reality, it was about 6.9mpg. I've had almost the same truck, except 550 13 and 24.5. 1996 Volvo. Keep RPM at or below 1400, you'll do just fine.

gman, what year volvo does your friend have? this one is a early-mid 90's volvo

He no longer has it, but it was a 1998 770. He had a 500 Cummins with an 18 speed transmission. It was the first year that they changed to the new body style. I really liked that truck. I had an opportunity to drive it once. It handled GREAT! He had a high interest rate and a payment around $2,300 or so and just got tired of having to run so hard just to make the payments. At the time he was upside down and found someone who wanted it so he got out from under it. I think that he regrets selling it.

You are right about the ECM's being off. I have seen that with some of my trucks. I always check the mileage by the odometer, but if you are looking at a truck that you don't own, it is the only way to check mileage. If you discount the ECM by 10% as you stated then it should at least give him an idea of the actual mileage. Talking to the driver or owner could also give a good idea of actual mileage.

That's 1996, the first Volvo, 1995 still was WhiteGMC. In 1997 VNL series came in, marked by 1998 year.
