In my current pursuit to be an owner operator, i want to pull a flatbed/step deck but of course i have no flatbed training so is there any where i can take a Load Securement Class or Training??

Some carriers offer securement classes when you lease to them. CRST Malone and Landstar both offer securement classes. There are some who offer classes for drivers. I believe TMC and Maverick will train inexperienced flat bed drivers. If you are looking for a class that you can take on your own without being leased to a carrier, I have no idea. I have not heard about any securement classes that are offered away from a carrier. If there is a flat bed carrier whom you are interested in leasing on with you may want to give them a call and see if they offer something that might work for you.

You can get a book on load securement from JJ Keller, I also believe you can download information right from FMCSA website, I'm getting short on time but I can look later if you can't find it. Most of it really is common sense. If your not comfortable with it throw another strap or chain on it. Other drivers will help also if you ask.

It's tarping that will take time to master. I'm still learning. There's been times it looked good and tight and then I get to the interstate and it looks like I'm pulling a balloon down the road.

There are some loads that will do that, no matter how you cover it. And, when you have one, keep an eye on your bungees. You're likely to break a few. Back when I pulled loads out of Marquip Corp, most of them did that. And, the shipper was the one that tarped most of the loads. They had their own OVER-SIZED tarps that covered a 50' load with just one tarp. But, there were a whole lot of air spaces in the load. If I covered lumber or brick, it would stay nice and tight. If I covered equipment, it did what it wanted.

Yep, that's pretty much when I have problems, when it's not a square load. There are times though that even the square loads get air under the tarp. I get so pissed off if I can't fix it.
