Was crusin' for deals when I saw this ad. What is a "spreader bar" and how does it let you run "quad, 3+1 or 2+2"?

A spreader bar also know as a stinger can be hooked to the back of the trailer then the flip axle or axles are pinned to it. Both flips hooked to trailer you have a quad, take off 1 flip, insert spreader bar attach flip to back you have a 3 + 1 or move 2 and have a 2 + 2. All states don't give you 80000 on a quad so you have to be flexable.(you need a forklift to put it together)

There is a learning curve on shimming the bar and axles. Steep driveways will throw all the weight to the back axles and can cause damage

OK thanks HD. That's kinda neat. I thought a stinger had axle(s) permanently attached to it like a jeep. Am I wrong on that?

So have I got this right? Are you saying that a spreader bar + flip axle(s) adds axles like a stinger but gives you more flexibility than a stinger because a with a stinger you are stuck with whatever configuration you have...2+2, or 2+1?

Most true stingers have a pivot point, not fixed like a spreader bar. Some stingers can have removable axles.

Problem with many combos is you need all the pieces with you unless you run local.
just so you know, most heavy haul rates are in the toilet too. If you use brokers they are taking 40 to 50% off the top. Fuek, 2 escorts, heavy permits cost $5 a mile. I have seen loads cut $12,000 from what they were last year.

LOL Don't worry. I was looking for a deal on another 35 T tandem RGN or an extendable....not one of these setups. I'm just curious is all.

If you plan on adding a flip avoid Fontain, they are hard to put up or down. With a fork lift and several people it is still very difficult.
