I tell you what, though, I'm improving my appearance. Like I said, I did a pretty decent job the first time around, but I'm going to tighten it up a little. There's nothing I can do to make my company stay in business, but I can beat a lot of O/Os on cost and in willingness to sit in Timbuktu waiting on freight. I can't make the company stay in business but I can at least try to be one of the last O/Os standing if guys start parking their trucks.

Thanks Gman. Thanks Rank. It wouldn't hurt my feelings any if we had a post-winter rebound. Some of these things we're looking at in the macroeconomy might be years playing out. More time to get ready.

Then, there are things I need to do around the house, things I need. And, I don't have a cash reserve, just a lot of readily accessible credit. I only bought my truck and started working really consistently 3 years ago. I'm not where I want to be, but I know I'm in better shape than a lot of people.

I understand that. But do you really believe, that coming time, will let you prepare for anything?
Cause personally, i believe it's gonna be more like "surviving" time....

There does seem to be a little positive movement in freight. It has a long way yet to go but any positive movement is good. I think we will continue to be in survival mode for a while. This situation will not go away over night. It will take time and I think we will see a slow recovery. Our taxes will increase contrary to what Obama and the chickencrats tell us. I would put back as much as you can and not rely on credit. The way things are going your credit may not be there when you need it. Good credit is no longer a guarantee that you will get the money you need when it is needed. I would not count on anything but the cash you have on hand.

I hear you on survival, Solo. I don't know how bad it will get or how long it will take for us to bottom out. For all I know, we could reach bottom in 20 years. There could be a short term bump this summer- I just don't know. I just think it's important to get it while the getting is good, and be ready to adapt when it isn't.
Good point on the credit, Gman. I've always just taken it for granted. |
