In other words if your old PTO turned counter clockwise, they could have put in one that turned clockwise or vice versa.
Well i know exactly zero about the way the pump operates, but product was flowing the right way it just wasn't being "pushed" by the pump. Seems to me if it was put on backwards it would be pushing the product back into the tank?

I'm not sure have to talk to the terminal manager tomorrow about it, but I'm expecting to get raped.

Yes...and no. With 30 psi on the tank, the pump was simply pushing BACK at the tank pressure...except for those intermittent burps, which were like a hiccup.

Hopefully DANA will check out the PTO for free.

Getting some demurrage is going to be tough. No..the weather conditions weren't your fault. However, You probably should have hooked up the truck pump first thing, before ever getting a hose wet...but that is hindsight. If the customer suggested using air instead of the pump...that should earn you some $$$.

To test a newly installed PTO, drive shaft, or pump, you take both caps off, start the PTO up, once your certain that the pump is turning, run the rpms up to your normal operating speed, then get out there, and place your palm over the intake for the pump. You should feel the pump, if it is rotating properly, sucking against your palm.

IF the intake is pushing against your palm, then you know immediately that the PTO was installed improperly, or the pump was rebuilt improperly. Oh yeah....IF you had identified that as a problem...you could have hooked the hoses up to the pump in reverse....changing the discharge in to the suction, and vice-versa. The thing about doing it this way, is it makes the vanes work harder to push the fluid, and it disables the by-pass valve that most pumps have now. With 30 psi on the tank, you could have still unloaded in decent time.

Was the product super flock?

Yeah I think they will, but if they won't fix it (which I am pretty sure they won't) then I won't/can't fix it right away which means no more Grand Rapids.....

If Dana doesn't take care of you, and the pto is backwards...then you work with the shop that did the repair....just don't let them stick you for more $$$.

So you probably weren't running ITH...which means everything, including the discharge, was super cold.

Yeah we'll see about the shop, those guys were super cool, but they are 600 miles away. No intransit heat and we had to heat up the discharge tube and remove all the frozen product. We opened up the valve and made sure we had free flowing product.

Well...I described how you can self-test the PTO after having work done on it. That should keep you out of trouble until you get feeble minded and forget about it.

As far as a frozen pump...I carry a quart of isopropyl alcohol with me...to pour through the pump before trying to use it...even though I do like Maniac, and run with the caps off.

I'm gonna remember his ether to clean out the ports trick!
