It would be good to let others know about some of these cheap freight haulers. There is no way people like that can or should stay in business. With those rates they cannot even afford to pay for fuel. I would not want to be associated with a company such as that. The order taker that took that load should be fired. I said order taker because he is not a salesman. A salesman would have either gotten a good rate or walked away from the business.issedoff:

Beleive it or not, that's your choice. I have nothing to gain or loose from it because as I said at the begining I'm a company driver. If I were and owner-operator I would gladly call the company out on it but as an employee of another company I don't feel it's my right to name the company as there could be a backlash against my employer and ultimately me for it. Just look what G-Man posted right above your response rank, he bid a load at $11k with the escorts costing $3,700 and someone hauled it for $4,800 ($1,100 over escorts) which is worse than we were offered given the miles involved. $1.00 a mile is a $1.00 a mile whether it's 10 miles or 10,000 miles, you cannot operate specialized equipment for that no matter how you slice it. The insurance for specialized alone eats up a good portion then the fuel and driver pay pets you in the hole.

With night outs the escort probably cost $1.50 a mile, and all he has is a $2000 car, $500 for lights and signs and insurance.

You don't know what the shipper was paying, just what the company was trying to move it for after a 3pl and several brokers took their cut. We just go out bid by about half on some loads going out west, but got them anyway because the shipper knows his project is to important to get screwed up over a few thousand dollars.

Some so called carriers have no idea about permit and escort charges, they just see a big number and get excited and jump on a load, then figure it out. then try to broker it out.

I'm thinking that they were either GA based...TX based..or WA based.

I have three names in mind that would do what Flyer has posted.

At the minute pilot cars are clearing more than the trucks they are escorting. My GF has done three loads this month and made over $5,000. Her truck is paid off so only has gas and 5 nights motels to come out of it. My HH truck is staying parked. There is a lot of HH equipment getting either turned back or repo'd so less available out there so the rates will start back up. I had a trailer salesman call the other day wanting to sell me a 3+3+3 that is a year old, that they got back, for less than what just the jeep would have cost a year ago.

In a situation like this if you know what you're doing you politely say no and move on. What was happening in that phone conversation is called capitalism, I applaud the broker in his efforts and your dispatcher in knowing better.

Thats it right there, the shipper has NO idea, how much the truck is getting paid, after all they paid good money to move the goods to the broker.

I'm not calling you a liar man. But you have to admit, it's pretty unbelievavble.

We did 3 oversize last week. Two of those were 14'-3" wide, requiring two escorts per truck in NY state, 1 escort per truck in NJ, PA & ON. I bid it low becasue we only had 120 dead miles in the whole trip (60 miles to pu & 60 miles back to our yard). $4200 per load on 526 permitted miles. We got the loads because it was cheap but what you're talking about is off the chart.
