Do you take weight into account when you book a load?

My dad will take a load that takes him to a better paying job. For example he was in FL on Thursday(freight that took him there paid $2.30/mi) and to get him to a better place I helped him get a partial ($1.41/mi) that took him to freight that paid $1.87/mi back through Nashville today and delivers to IL on Tuesday. All that with about a 90 mile dead head averaged out to $1.87/mi. I consider that pretty good pay. Keeping in mind, of course, that anything more is better. If you take the base operating cost of $1.29 from $1.87 you get $0.58/mi. That is what he earned minus taxes. Multiply that by his miles and we've figured out how much he made minus taxes for the week.

I'm not even going to mention depreciation to you, because I doubt you could grasp the concept.

I did not take into account selling the truck/trailer after 3 years. The figures are based on a truck and trailer payment of $2k/month forever. Whatever happens to the truck after three years sold or contined to be used only lowers the base operating cost.
