The last time I checked, a week was only 7 days long, not 11.

I realize the total time is over 7 days, but the first pick up was only a few hours from home and the last drop off is about 45 minutes from home. Since we are not working saturday I figured it was safe to call it a week.

I haven't seen that info. I'll search it out.

 

You guys are doing pretty good. It doesn't matter if you say you got $3.00 a mile. People will tell you they could get $4.00. If you get $4.00 then everyone will get $5.00 plus $200 for tarping and $5,000 an hour for detention over 10 minutes. Your doing fine!

Sounds like your dad is a go getter. That's not a bad gross for the week and no naps? What the heck!!!

 

I don't quote my rates most of the time, but when I do they are accurate.



I would not rely entirely on the rates quoted by these ratings people. They are only average rates on those reporting them. Unless brokers, shippers or carriers report the rates they are not included. I would only use them as a guide. Not everyone will report their rates.

 

Woke up at 7:15 am shipper took maybe 5 minutes to load(we were first ones there). Note straps outside of tarp. We're en route to drop off have to make a 1:30pm check-in.

We had the broker just call us that booked us on the frieght we are hauling now. He said he had another $3/mi load going from here to there 800mi. We couldn't take it because we already signed up to take another load for about $2/mi. So, I think just after time of getting signed up with brokers and getting to know how things work in the business he'll be able to make more money.

 

That is a tactic someone who isn't earning enough uses. Making 11 days into 7, turning 3000 miles into 2500, making a $1.80 per mile run into an "about $2.00" per mile run.

There's a reason why I'm ragging on you about this:

$8292 over 7 days is $1184.57 per day - not too shabby of a gross.

$8292 over 11 days is $753.81 per day - not all that great of a rate anymore.

"We didn't work Saturday" doesn't cut it when you are in business for yourself. The bills don't take a day off. Every day counts, even if you don't do anything on that day.

 

This morning he said he picked up the load we delivered on Monday on Thursday afternoon. He had off Part of Thursday, all Friday, all Saturday, and Sunday morning. Since you seemed determined to count days off then go ahead, but how does one figure the load out of nashville he will take on Monday after he unloads early. It does not take into account the load he dropped on last Thursday morning either.

If we take $691x30 days=$20730 gross for a month is pretty good IMO.
About $10k goes to fuel. $2k truck/trailer payment. $700 ins. Maybe $500 a week for misc. expenses. $1500 per week isn't bad.

I couldn't find where you posted your income. Maybe you can post a months worth of your income and expenses as well as where your loads went to and from so I judge.
