Good luck
Maybe that is what this woman is a "load planner." I know she takes 5% and wants it weekly. It does not matter if he is paid or not. I also know my dad can surely spend and hour or so each day looking up loads on the computer and keep that 5%.
Perhaps you should tell her if she wants her money weekly she should factor it too.

I think Gman has a dispatch service that's cheaper than 5%.

His brother is a big wig with a large, elite...cough...rev, trucking company. I think he even told my father not to do this. It really doesn't matter now it's been a couple months in the making. Since he is not going down the only way to go is up.

If he does well I may give it a try.

The situation is what it is right now. The whole reason I did this topic is to find out how most O/O's handle the getting loaded aspect. I'd like to tell him how most of ya'll are doing it. I'm sure Gman has a great service I don't think that my dad wants to use a service. He wants to try it on his own and save money. I don't think it would be too hard to get loads off a board, but I have never even seen a load board let alone tried to see about getting loads off it. He has signed up with getloaded.com I have told him about a couple others mentioned on the board as well.

Admitting you made a mistake and learning the definition of the term radius means you are overcoming your ignorance.

10% of the gross of a new driver and owner operators earnings over a month is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

He is learning from his mistakes and discovering new ways to make his venture more profitable. Learning and changing his operation for the better show neither ignorance nor stupidity.

Just have your dad get the following

Laptop with a wireless internet card
Subscription to either The Internet Truckstop or GetLoaded
Cell phone
Printer/Scanner combo
Efax service or something like it

He's in a real good area so just have him post his truck as available wherever he is and wait for the phone to ring.

Have him set his minimum rate like $2.00 per mile or whatever.

That's pretty much it.

As far as factoring and all the negative comments, forget them. I never got where I was and am today without taking risks and chances. His cash will start to build over time and he'll be able to do without the factoring companies.

I've been driving for almost 2 years now and haven't had any real major breakdowns that have cost me a fortune.

Everyone who starts out needs a little luck and it doesn't matter what business your in. You take the chance and go for it and hope you make it over the hump.

There are plenty of people on here who will give you help including myself.

There are also plenty of people on here who don't even have their own authority but seem to have plenty of advise and no nuts.

Good luck to your dad.
