I got 3 traffic violations in the last 12 months in my personal vehicle. Seat belt, no pink insurance card and speeding 45 mph in a 30 zone. Markell said that was too many so I have to go do a different ins company. No big deal as it turns out but just ticked off that my commercial driving record over that last 5 years didn't count for anything.

But it shows how stupid seemingly insignificant little things can end a career......even with a stellar commercial record.

Everything counts against you these days. Insurance companies run the trucking industry.

Most businesses can't run without insurance. Environmentalist are a bigger problem.

Drama Queen!! I thought something serious happened and you were sitting in a room with a gun to head crying over your impending doom...........

That said, my friends grandfather (about 90 yrs old) once got a ticket for doing 25 in a 15. I always laugh about that.

I thought I was out of business. 4 different brokers told me I was SOL and another told me he could get me insured but the premium would be $25,000-$30,000. Only when I told my current broker I was quitting did he tell me to contact "JDIMI" and then it was no problem all of a sudden. What a scam the insurance business is.

I actually started to wonder if the big carriers maybe own the insurance companies and purposely make the rules and rates so ridiculous that no driver can attain a cheap rate and no small carrier can afford the average driver. The small carrier then has no choice but to quit and the drivers have no choice but to go to the self insured big carriers for less pay.

I'm glad everything worked out for you rank. I bet it was tense.

Interesting. You might be onto something.

I can't complain about the rate that I have been paying. It is time to renew and I hope that I will be able to keep the same rate. Some of the major carriers self insure up to a point before their insurance kicks in so they can get smaller premiums and hire less experienced drivers. Smaller carriers usually don't have the resources to self insure so we must pay whatever they ask for a premium. One thing that I have noticed over the years is that premiums can vary widely from one insurance company to another.

It's funny how things work out. Last year, with 1 ticket on my personal and 1 on my personal record, I pd $12,000. I just got my renewal from the new broker (same ins company) and with 1 ticket on my commercial and 4 on my personal my new rate is $8,500. Just goes to show what a broker can do if he wants your business instead of already having your business.

I switched insurance brokers a couple of years ago and saved over $2,000 with the same insurance company. I just got my renewal proposal and my insurance company went up about $140/year. I will be paying about $4,400 with the increase. I am waiting on a couple of other proposals, but I doubt that they will beat the rate.
