I can tell you that when I used to deliver fuel oil years ago, alot of people whould buy those additives for their tank. They were very expensive for a tiny bottle. I would tell them to use acetone, because it's the same crap but alot cheaper. It would help clean the nozzle for a better burn. I have never put it in my truck. You try it first, and let me know how you make out. :P

We are going to try this tomorrow.

We have a load to Billings Montana which is 1000 miles 1 way. We will going out with 5400lbs and straight back with around 10,000lbs. There will be no stopping for long periods or idling.

2001 Volvo with a VED 12 engine with autoshift. 890,000 miles with no prior major engine work done.

Currently averaging 6.7mpg

Acetone is one of the most flammable of all the solvents out there, more dangerous than regular gas, not worth messing with it.

There are NO scientific results or tests for this, the cost of the acetone will offset any savings.

Remember what is important in that article, ie.---small amounts , tiny proportations, and how small is small. Remember the old days of drivers telling of using one quart of gasoline to each tank of gas, to clean injectors, keep fuel from gelling, better mileage. Then hearing about engines running too hot, burnt valves, heads ruined and so on. Hey if the engine manufacturer does not suggest it then leave it alone.

Just use simple logic, if this worked it would be on every front page of every trucking magazine. Thousands of companies would already be in business selling a holding tank that injected the exact amount needed for the best fuel economy plus some that provided a boost button for the big hills!!!! lol

If that stupid turbo boost thing or whatever it's called actually worked it would be standard equipment on all new trucks so they could boast increased fuel mileage and sell more trucks.

Centramatics work, and they are not standard equipment. So do Taylor Wings. What you are saying holds true for most of that crap though.

All right, that's it. I'm quitting, packing up my family, and moving to the mountains. Rev and Steve agreeing on something is definitely one of the seven signs of the apocalypse. I read it in the Bible somewhere...I just know it.
